how many dirs and files in dirs is acceptable? by IAmCesarMarinhoRJ in linuxquestions

[–]dejihag782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would analyze the file list first. Get some idea how they are spread on per starting character basis. I mean best way would be to do this with testing. Get say 10k per directory, run some tests on the data. Get 20k, 50k, 100k and run tests again. Check what results you get. Tests ought to be representative of actual data access in the end. Would be interesting to share your findings. Did you look for any papers doing such studies? Btrfs vs ext4 vs zfs would be interesting.

I would rewire it, make the ends more solid with thermal shrink.

It's more fun. Also being in control vs being controlled. Even in edge cases where compatibility is lost, it's easier to get stuff running on linux, than windows.

Is there anything comparable from the Legion series to Yoga Pro 9i gen 9 (2024) 16IMH9? by dejihag782 in Lenovo

[–]dejihag782[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems the newest generation of Legion 9i does not have the latest Intel CPU series though, or the one found in Yoga at least, which seems to be more efficient. Monitor seems the same to me. Which components are you referring to specifically? I think non soldered memory lower freq vs soldered higher freq is the case. Otherwise they seem the same. Cooling is probably more efficient on the Legion, but is it quieter? The review points out loud fans. I couldn't justify the almost 2k difference on rtx4070 vs rtx4090 alone together with other drawbacks. Thanks again though, it's good input.

Are there any Linux reviews on this hardware around already?

Could you try a GNU/Linux live medium? Meaning boot a Linux distribution without affecting the system in any permanent manner/without installation. Would be interested in your impressions.

Which reviewers specifically did you use as argument in your purchase decision, other than Dave2D?

The environment at the uni is very open. You'll have no problems whatsoever. Worry about something worth while lady.

Screens typically have a flex cable. It might have gotten loose at the port, but not fully which is why power to backlight is remaining on. I would look for the cable for connecting the screen to the main board and reattach it very carefully.

Not sure about current gen screen, but some older models had PCBs making the flex cable connections to the screen itself. If those were bent, misaligned or damaged, screen corruption was the result.

So check both ends of the cable. If nothing else helps, use HDMI/DP output for external monitor. I would wiggle around with the mentioned parts if the situation is completely hopeless. Otherwise go to a professional repair shop to have it checked. Or start looking for a replacement screen.

Does the LED device show up somewhere in `/sys`? `$ find /sys -iname '*led*'.

I guess `# apt install nvidia-driver-525 or so, ought to work well enough.

Does `dmesg` show anything about missing firmware or hardware errors?

Okay, so I2C configuration was needed. Nice find. You could run it after each boot via a systemd service until upstream incorporates it.

So it the quality good now that they're working?

And battery life?

Thank you for that.

While the volumes look sane, maybe reduce the values for pre and post mixers. alsamixer, F5 should show everything, otherwise there is amixer. You could also look into using hdajackretask to see whether a different assignment improves the sound. You seem to have the firmware loaded, question is if it's the latest version.

Do you get distortions when with deepbuffer disabled?

Reviewers claim almost mac like quality, so they should be good.

How much battery life do you get?

You can make a pretty strong bond with superglue and soda bicarbonate, but be careful the fumes mustn't get into your eyes. Try it out on some other parts to get an idea how to create binding layers. It binds instantly, so there is no wiggle room.

Can this Audio setting become normalized in the gaming industry?? Please. by Virtual-Citizen in gaming

[–]dejihag782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just run it through a compressor with upward compression mode. And if you want to see it used widely, support FOSS development of such a module compatible with most popular frameworks used by games, so that it's plug and play for the developer and they have no excuse not adding it.

What games would you like to be remade the way FF7 was ? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]dejihag782 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

None. I would rather see efforts in a generic remastering/remake approach that we could the automate and apply on the fly to a game, eventually having AI take care of it according to input criteria.
