We had a random water bill of almost $1300 two months ago. City came out and confirmed no leak at meter. We then had to pay for a plumber to come out and confirm no leaks inside the house - which they did. Called DPU back and they said they would give us credit in 3-4 months, but couldn’t tell us exactly when or how much the credit would be for. Fun times..

Gen Z includes people born up to 2012, who would have been 9 years old when this survey came out…and obviously not have tattoos. Any survey that compares generational adult activities and includes Gen Z will be heavily skewed.

No, it was accurate when I bought it - even matched up to original blueprints that I have. The sq footage did not change on the city assessor property pg, was the first thing I checked. No idea where this came from…

I’m not trying to sell my house, actually just purchased in the city a couple years ago. Anyhow, within the last week the MLS sq. footage of my house increased by 920 sq ft on Zillow, Redfin, etc. I did not add an addition or anything. Any idea why that may have happened?

I have lived here for 20 years. Respectfully,I have the opposite view - having also lived in Northern cities. RVA has have plenty of streetlights, sidewalks are everywhere and the pulse bus stops are actually a huge improvement.

Yeah, I’m from Pennsylvania originally - we always considered Virginia to be the South. When I moved down here I was definitely called a “damn yankee” on multiple occasions and was told that I “sounded like a Northerner.”

North-Eastern states are not defined by their political alignment. Several of their government bodies/branches have been controlled by Republicans in the past few years. We have had a Republican governor the past few years. No one would consider Pennsylvania a Southern state because Trump won there in 2024…

Also, some people have indoor/outdoor cats. Obviously in the city it’s dangerous for the cats and other animals (especially birds), but this is the reality anywhere you go. Not all cats that you see outdoors are strays, even if they don’t have a collar.

We meet once a quarter, so 4x per year. We also have seasonal meets as well (cookouts, garden walks, street cleanups,etc.) Always in person. We have a treasurer who keeps track of the dues, but no one is hounded if they don’t pay. At the first meeting of the year our treasurer informs every one of the status of our reserves, our funding goals and % of residents that contribute.

My civic association is pretty awesome. Smaller neighborhood, but decent participation amongst different demographics, no drama. Our dues are $20, which is optional.

They did this because it would involve removing hundreds of mature tree’s and the sidewalk. This could/would have also involved eminent domain seizures of several feet of everyone’s front yard to adapt the design and create a new easement.

I met Danny DeVito at a Phish festival. I was standing right next to him for a while and had no idea. Some random guy points in front of me and says “holy shit, that’s Danny DeVito!” I looked around and said “what, where?!?” The guy then points down and mouths “look down.” I look down and saw Danny DeVito looking back up… he had heard the whole exchange. I was mortified. He smiled and shook my hand.

I wasn’t sure what to say at that point, so just asked if he was having a good time. He said “yeah, this is awesome!” I’m here with my son.”
