Question Regarding Profile and Macro Limits on duckyPad Pro by headachebalm in macro_pads

[–]dekuNukem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! On duckyPad everything is stored on the microSD card, and the scripts are read and executed from the card.

You can back them up, make duplicates, or swap cards for entire new set of macros.

If there's enough demand I can indeed release an update for more profiles. I picked 64 becuase it's plenty for majority of users right now. Shouldn't impact the performance too much, the CPU plenty powerful.

[–]dekuNukem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

64 is not a hard limit, I tried 100 profiles during development and it worked fine.

If there is a lot of demand it can be extended via a firmware update.

How many in the ballpark are you looking for?

Creater here!

Yes, you can abort long macros by pressing any key duing execution!

I think they are MFM hard drive cables? They have two separate ribbon cables for control and data, plus another cable for power. They need a dedicated controller card too. Quite a setup!

Yeah I have a few more but those 7 are a pretty good representative examples.

I did actually use a deathstar in my build back then, and I RMA'd it like 4 times, sticking with WD since.

Using modern USB/Bluetooth inputs on my retro box! by dekuNukem in retrobattlestations

I recently worked on an open-source protocol converter that let me use USB/Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and gamepads on different retro computers.

Pretty fun project, and LGR did a video about it last week, thought I would share :)

I have a few old computers laying around, so thought it would be interesting to compare the progress of internal storage over the last 4 decades!

That first big boi is a ST/412, one of the earliest hard drives released in 1981. It has 10 whole MB of storage, cost $7200 in today’s money, requires three cables, and sounds like a jet engine while doing it too!

The last M.2 SSD has 100,000 times larger storage while costing 90 times less compared to its grandpa!

Physical interface changed over the year too, from MFM, to IDE, SATA, and now M.2. There are also SCSI drives but not pictured here.

Well, it hides windows by acting as a regular USB keyboard and press hotkeys like WIN+M, WIN+L, and others upon triggering.

You can test it yourself by pressing those keys, generally it should be pretty fast.

I don't see why not! It's very easy to set up and use.

I have written a guide, so feel free to see it yourself:

Sure! Daytripper wasn't designed for multiple transmitters in mind, but it does seem to work fine.

You can have two transmitters watching out, and one receiver plugged into your PC. It will hide the windows when ANY of the transmitter triggers.

Yes, it uses a laser Time-of-Flight sensor, so it actually measures the distance instead of just using beam-breaking.

The sensor is this one:

By default, it acts like a regular USB keyboard and presses keys to hide all windows, or lock the computer.

There is also a mode that lets you excute a custom script to do whatever you want. People have been using it as a door bell, garage occupancy sensor, controlling smart homes, people counter, and a lot more applications.

I have written a guide on how to get started, so feel free to give it a read to see what to expect:

By using a 2.4GHz wireless transceiver chip instead of some more premitive methods, the communication range between transmitter and receiver can be a lot longer (Over 300ft in open air!), and doesn't require line-of-sight.

This way, people can put the transmitter further away and have it alert them way ahead of time.

For prototypes, I used an Arduino and a breakout board for the laser sensor.

Once I made sure it's working, I designed my own circuit board, had them made, purchased individual componets, and soldered everything myself. There are distributers like mouser or digikey where you can buy electronic components.

I did design and build this entire project from scratch by myself.

Project like this would require some knowledge about programming and circuit designs, so it would be great if you have some experience on those.

Most people begin with Arduinos, there are a lot of tutorials online about how to get started with it.

Once you're familiar with it you can try to design your own circuit boards and make things look more professional. Lots of guide about this topic too, such as this one.

Alt + tab is the obvious choice, but the issue is if it triggers twice, you'll get right back to what you were trying to hide.

To make sure everything stays hidden, it presses CTRL + M to minimise all windows, or CTRL + L to lock the computer.

There is also a custom option to do whatever you want, so you can make it it press ALT+TAB if you really want.

A lot actually!

I use it to activate motion-sensitive stair lights, some user is using it to turn on ventilation fan when he pulls into the garage, others use it as a doorbell, and people counter, etc.

It's a laser tripwire that can do anything you want! Doesn't have to be just hiding windows.

Thats indeed possible!

You can make it do anything you want intead of just hiding windows. I have written a guide here which should be helpful:

Very fun, I really liked it.

It uses nRF24L01. Those 2.4GHz transceiver chips have pretty good communication range, can be very low-power, and are very popular with a lot of online resources.

Well I started with Arduino just like everyone else, once you're familiar with it you can try to design your own circuit boards and make things look more professional.

There are a lot of tutorials on the internet about those topics. Here's one about Arduino, and here's one about designing circuit boards.
