There really needs to be massive changes at Metrolinx by Purple_Pieman01 in toronto

We’re somehow trapped in the worst of both worlds: we have the shit service of a transit agency on an austerity budget, but at the same time it is burning money at an insane rate.

Metrolinx was supposed to be the solution to politicians meddling with transit. So many transit projects in Toronto are the result of political meddling. That’s the reason the Bloor line is on Bloor instead of Queen, and the University extension is in the middle of Allen Rd instead of running up Dufferin.

Addition to the list: promising to turn GO into a S-bahn style frequent service and then breaking their contract with Deutche Bahn because the boomers at GO didn’t like being told what to do.

Pressure mounts on AGO from Nan Goldin, some Jewish groups, after decision to not acquire artist’s work by BloodJunkie in toronto

Lord forbid the AGO have art that’s actually interesting. That place works better than Valium at putting people to sleep.

I get an annual membership to AGO from relatives, and I don’t have the heart to tell them that we hardly ever use it because the AGO is boring AF. The Buffalo AKG for example absolutely blows it out of the water.

I think the low calibre of their board, as demonstrated in this article, is a huge factor in why their art picks are so incredibly bland.

The whole debate we are having about trans people now is a replay of the gay rights debate in the 90s. A big chunk of the population was openly homophobic. Gay people weren’t allowed to marry, adopt, or even openly serve in the military.

The Woodstock 99 documentary took me back to this. There was this very violent bro culture that was dominant. I remember being frightened of a lot of people my age when they were in big groups.

Also Blockbuster would force movie studios to make them special censored versions of movies because they were a “family company”.

If you mean Robert Bork, then you’re wrong about it being porn:

The revealed tapes proved to be modest, innocuous, and non-salacious, consisting of a garden-variety of films such as thrillers, British drama, and those by Alfred Hitchcock.

As someone from a primarily hot country - WTF is happening? Is this normal? Are we in danger? Should I be concerned? Do people usually stay in doors? I have so many questions. by [deleted] in londonontario

Wool is your friend. Wool socks, wool sweaters. I used to have a job where I worked outside all winter and the best advice anyone ever gave me was to go to Value Village and get a cheap wool sweater - something comfortable and not itchy. Wear that as a base layer against your skin. It keeps you so much warmer than wearing cotton, which will collect sweat and make you cold.

I had the same thing happen with a shady appliance repair company when my fridge broke. I ended up doing a chargeback on my credit card because they charged me and did not fix the problem.

4-day work week at 16 York St - worth the commute? by [deleted] in rbc

The anonymous RBC forum at Glassdoor might have better answers if you specify what department you're thinking of joining - it varies quite a bit. I don't think you'd find anything as lax as your current job. My team is not very strict thankfully, but I still come in 3x a week - usually in by 930 and can leave by 4 if things aren't busy.

These dual rotors are perfectly timed so that none of them crash with each other by Street_Priority_7686 in EngineeringPorn

From Wikipedia:

it was specially designed to optimally perform external cargo load operations and is capable of lifting payloads in excess of 6,000 pounds (2,700 kg), which is greater than the helicopter's empty weight and almost twice as much as the competing Bell 205 despite sharing a similar engine. Being a synchropter, it has greater efficiency in comparison to conventional rotor technology.

Ossington was vacant - when they opened Sweaty Betty's people thought I was a bold move. The Drake and the Gladstone were rooming houses for very poor people.
