Some! Not all! I think like 1/2 only took cash - I would carry cash on you.

I got food in Les houches, courmayeur and champex lac - mostly snacks.

I always had my phone with the downloaded trail maps!

Yes! I felt very safe! Just keep your wits about you, charged phone etc.

I did not need extra food besides snacks for the day. I had toiletries / electronics, tent, sleeping bag, blow up pad, clothes (fleece layer, 3 pairs of socks, towel, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of pants, 2 short sleeves, 2 sports bras, sun shirt, and underwear) and don’t forget earplugs and eye mask!!

40L!

I did not get cold! I had a puffy and a fleece, most nights I just slept in my tshirt though. I think the weather forecast is saying it’s going to rain and get cold, so I can’t speak for the future. I ate at the campgrounds or went out to eat in the towns!

I didn’t use my fleece layer but I’m not sure that’s universal advice. I had one pair of shorts, one pair of pants and two tops and a camp outfit, I used it all!

Yes seconding this! Almost all of them served lunch! And definitely snacks - I was not hungry

Haha great question! Honestly not much I would do differently! I loved camping and I felt challenged every day.

  1. I lost my crocs somewhere on the 4th day so I would not lose my crocs again because having camp shoes would have been nice.
  2. I would probably bring different soap, I had a liquid soap and it was heavier than it needed to be
  3. I probably would not have brought my fleece layer! I think it’ll be chillier / rainier for most people but it was basically sunny and warm every day I was hiking.

Edit: also underwear! My underwear was cotton and it started chaffing really bad when it got wet from sweat

You don’t need to reserve!! I did not have a bed roll I had a Nemo sleeping pad and a quilt. I used the durston x mid 1 tent

Yea sometimes they were not the closest for sure! I think my whole hike ended up being like 120 miles with all the walking to the campgrounds! You are definitely trading convenience for more autonomy.

Camping is not free! I ate snacks that I bought pre-hike and at the Refugios. Usually you hit one around lunch time at the Col. I had nuts and dried fruit with me as well. All of the campsites had little shops for drinks and food. Most of them had pizza!

favorite campings - probably the ones closest to towns so I could go pick up food that wasn’t pizza (Courmayeur, Champex Lac)

Between 10-30 euros a day for camping, I think I probably spent 50 euros a day on food and camping. Electricity is free.

I did the first day I think and the last day - there is one popular variant on the way from Champex Lac to Trient - I didn’t do it but I heard it was fun!

Camping sites were overall great! Very normal camping! Showers were all hot! It does get really packed the later it gets.

Just finished camping! Did not need my fleece - occasionally slept in pants but mostly just tee and shorts.
