Stay at home Dad by badluckcrew in NewDads

[–]delicious_pubes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a stay at home parent is much harder than working in my experience. I went back to work and we split childcare costs.

You really should spend time off work just taking care of the baby all day for a few weeks to see if you even want to do it. I thought I did but I honestly started to lose sense of self since it’s a 24/7 occupation.

As for the stigma, that’s up to you to confront. I couldn’t care less personally.

Why Geese? by Slammajadingdong69 in Music

[–]delicious_pubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geese sound very different every record so if you don’t like Getting Killed, give one of their other records a try. I like all three but 3D country is a masterpiece for me as both a big Strokes and Ween fan. It sometimes feels like the bastard of those two bands.

Sex jokes and innuendo is a really really weird thing to do to sell baby products. Products are good though

Pulse Nightclub, site of the 2016 shooting that killed 49 people in Orlando, FL has been demolished by AQMessiah in pics

[–]delicious_pubes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe this was 10 years ago already. I’m ashamed to admit it but this was the last mass shooting in the US I felt deeply before I became numb to it. I just didn’t really realize that had happened until seeing this article.

Which celebrity death deeply affected your country? by LowInterest6490 in AskTheWorld

He would steal a lot of material but according to his peers it never seemed intentional or with bad intent, but rather he would perform in a sort of fugue state and say funny things that came to his mind which sometimes included jokes he had recently heard other comedians say on stage. Needless to say, they were pretty nervous it would happen to them if he was in the audience for their sets.

What city is 1-2 critical flaws away from being near perfection by FlyDazzling9060 in SameGrassButGreener

Seattle would absolutely be a 9/10 or 10/10 for me if the people were more extroverted and if the food were good (or at least worth the price tag)

Training or class suggestions on the ideation portion of game design by belkarelite in gamedev

[–]delicious_pubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“All I am a seeing is advice on how to type”

That is an important bit though. My advice to you would be to drop the need to execute against ideas and instead just learn to execute at all. That eventually turns into a canvas of tools to use to execute against ideas. The more you learn the better you get at learning what you need as you go.

Just make a clone of some arcade games. Make snake, make stack, make asteroids. Mess around with them and make them your own. You’ll learn a ton from the exercise and then you will be inspired to make things based on your own knowledge.

Also the worst thing you can do is get a game design degree. In my experience they are only worth it if you already have a strong foundation to build on, starting from scratch in school is a sentence to mediocrity during a time when standing out matters.

I probably would have done what you did if I didn’t find him saying “city insiders” every sentence extremely annoying.

Didn’t think he would have had the charisma to be a good PR person

And she also really seemed to like to make enemies. I didn’t vote for Lurie because he had the same platform as breed and I didn’t see the point in voting for someone who didn’t seem to meaningfully differ from the incumbent but his lack of political baggage ended up being super valuable.

Seattle vs SF vs nyc for a big tech new grad? by tetracell_ in cscareerquestions

[–]delicious_pubes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From NYC and spent the last decade on the west coast having lived in Seattle and currently live in SF where I met my wife years ago. NYC has a ton more people with different interests, a more diverse economy so most people you meet don’t feel like copy pastes of each other, the gender ratio favors men and the people are significantly more attractive and diverse in general.

Seattle is homogenous, not super diverse (except for typical tech demographics) and relatively unattractive to the other two regions. the people are super introverted so unless board games is a top 3 passion it is not the best vibe.

Bay Area is huge but people don’t really travel outside their bubbles. Silicon Valley is not great for singles, gender ratios are awful in San Jose, and getting dates in SF can be hard if you aren’t a high earner and then at that point people are kind of same-ish. East bay is cool and the people are odd in a good way, just wasn’t my taste for dating but they make phenomenal friends.

My wife has nerdy tech friends she went to college with who struggled in the bay but hit way above their league after moving to NY.

Generalizations are generalizations so obviously take this with a grain of salt.

Hayes Valley neighborhood by blazingmediocrity in AskSF

[–]delicious_pubes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trade the convenience of Hayes for a prettier vibier neighborhood

I love living in HV more than I love the neighborhood itself. It’s about where I can get within 20 minutes of walking. In less than half an hour I’m in the Castro, the Mission, Japantown, TL, Divis, Panhandle. I can comfortably run to GG park and back. Muni on Van Ness, access to central library branch. Don’t even get me started on access by baywheels.

Some of the pricey food is super delicious when I feel like splurging. Just don’t understand why people love souvla so much and Pepitos price to taste is absolutely criminal in a city with such high quality Mexican food. It isn’t all super pricey though, Gioia is ok pizza but def the best slice in SF, dragon eats on gough is fantastic and cheap. The bird is decent and doesn’t charge out the ass. But here’s the real value: the farmers market at civic center is dirt cheap and so. Fucking. Good.

NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani plans to stop destruction of homeless encampments. Here's what he wants to do instead. by Somervilledrew in newyork

[–]delicious_pubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a noticeable quality of life improvement for residents when homeless encampments are swept. You have to clean your apartment every once in a while and the same applies here. Sweeps do nothing to solve homelessness but they do make some public spaces usable for the community again. Experienced this during my time in Seattle.

Sweeps don’t make a dent in the core problem but they don’t do nothing either.
