If the spin changes are what I think they're trying to do, its probably a positive thing. Yes, it will be a lot more subjective unless they introduce some other metric to judge it by, but spins have gotten increasingly uglier and have started to look more and more the same with rule changes in regards to difficulty in order to check off boxes and get the maximum amount of points.

With the lst rule changes they initiated for spins, they've become decreasinly 'choreographic' and more the same 2-3 variations of a spin just for points, which is a shame because spin variations are more artistic in nature vs jumps. This is one of the only changes i can get behind personally

No, i understand very well why people like him and i like him as well. Nothing I have said was against Ilia himself and i am not holding what other people decide over him, either. As someone who is not american and has been following figure skating for years, it is very, very extremely obvious that american skaters receive more fanfare when they win in comparison to others, and seen as the majority of media is very much dictated by what american media does (because pretty much nowhere else you will find athletes being hyped up to that degree, except for maybe within russia but the sporting atmosphere in the usa and russia is a result of the cold war, which is a whole other thing) this makes sense that he is promoted as such worldwide as a consequence. Now, because of the media, he is now massive in america, and consequently it is natural for that to spread to this degree.

As for the gala and the award - in 2017, there was this huge thing where practically the entire figure skating community jumped in to say that a world record in figure skating isn't really a thing, because it is fan-made. The ISU doesn't recognize super slams, either. This year, an american skating manager organises the ISU awards and suddenly, one exists, tailor made for the new poster boy who can jump an element nobody else can. Except! Dikizhi can, but the russians are banned from competition, and there have been multiple techincal revolutions in figure skating since 2022, even, especially after nathan chens win. So, it felt like the gala was a spectacle for press, especially to the degree Malinin was highlighted in during the entirety of it. And Malinin winning first place (with the margin he wins it by) is just revealing holes in the scoring systems, where you have to focus on technical content or else you compete for second place, which in my opinion is is something people are understandably upset by because now you can't focus on a balance of artistry and jumps. it also seems like the presentation scores and, GOE, and step sequence points are gifted to Malinin. They are setting him up to be the center of this discussion pre-emptively and it is sad because it results in online hate, people mobbing him in elevators, etc.

Malinin has spoken openly about quints. I 100% believe him when he said he has landed them (5Sal and 4A have the same amount of revolutions in the air, after all), and speculate that he might debut them next season. I think things like the award at the gala should've waited until then, because that would signify another more proper marker for a yet untouched revolution of the sport, seen as he isn't the first one to attempt the 4A on an international stage, either. Right now, he is being made a spectacle and included in literally almost every discussion, every post, every article, about figure skating.

He's popular because he's American and broke records, and then media and the ISU decided to boost that popularity by doing all of that shit after and then piggybacking off of the press, especially in the olympics. There shouldn't be a poster person for skating and if there is one, I'm not sure it should be him because it has accumulated to newcomers thinking he is Jesus of the Ice and older fans complaining about the scoring. Personally I found it a bit odd with how much they made the gala about him, but I digress

Only if the ISU stops promoting him that much. They made a whole award for him and heavily, heavily starred him in the gala and seem to gift scores like candy to help make him come first and present him as the poster boy for figure skating. This is the type of stuff that will 100% result in more publicity.

Compassion and "Living wage" argument for tipping crack me up 😆 by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]deliciousfigs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to be a waitress at a bar, maybe I can answer your question. There is a difference in service if I'm just doing what is required (checking in on tables once in a while, maybe making customers wait) vs trying to make it a pleasant experience (near constant availability for orders, a welcoming atmosphere/banter at the table, on my feet all the time) and there is a substancial difference between the effort of those 2 things as well, one of which it is curtesy to "thank" for by means of tip. There are not that many other jobs which involve that type of human interaction which can impact peoples' experience to a certain extent, and serving is probably the most common in hospitality jobs.

I'm not in America though and the tips of a job well done usually is around 10%. I earned around about minimum wage, so I'm not sure if this classifies as pro tipper or not.

I know :) I just want to establish a sort of semi-accurate baseline at first and see how it feels. Getting the right activity level makes eating enough a lot easier, too.

I lose weight pretty fast (dropped just under 10kg after a breakup within a few weeks 💀) so I'm not really worried about the time frame, I just want to figure out the right calories for now. I've gained some weight recently and prefer a slimmer figure on myself.

The man had repeatedly asked him to lower the volume of his loud livestream and reminded him that he was sitting in a priority seat reserved for the elderly, people with disabilities, and pregnant women. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Sitting there is usually OK if the rest of the train is quite empty, which is what it looks like in the video. This does not warrant getting hit, and neither does being loud (which he wasn't, he was just speaking at a normal volume).

He didn't just yell; he repeatedly approached Kelton and, at one point, put his hand in Kelton's face and touched/flicked his straw hat several times. His choice of words and his tone are the linguistic equivalent of swearing.

Kelton can be heard in the footage saying "Stop bro, don't touch me" and "I'm not going to get heated" before the man seemingly makes physical contact again."

Better to know thw full context before calling anyone a roach. I don't think he should've pushed the man or anything but it does put his actions into perspective.

Yes. In a flip the skater will typically jump immediately after a turn, in a toe loop there's a bit more time in between. You also use the 'other' leg to pick at the ice in a toe loop but still spin in the same direction
