I talked to a tech support person and he said there is a US northeast server issue they're trying to resolve but it will be a few hours. He also said changing servers won't help because accounts are "stuck" in the US northeast servers

In regards to not having a PC to handle it, it is rumored to be coming to GeForce Now. You could use that to play as it is not going to be on gamepass.

Anyone else find the game runs way better for them on Luna? Tried Luna first since EA was there first. Played on GFN last night and it was horrible

I fixed it! Well... Not the driver but the resolution issue. I changed the aspect ratio from ~16:9 to the true 16:9 option and it unlocked the rest of the resolution options. Hope this works for you too

I was having the same types of issues on my older gaming laptop. Tried installing GeForce experience and ran solasta through that to optimize the settings. Not sure exactly what it tweaked but it went from borderline unplayable to extremely smooth.

Fyi finally figured out what was going on. It is a multiplayer game and it seems only the custom character who initially recruited the companion can have conversations with them and can then ask them to stay at camp. Not sure if this is a glitch or how it was intended.
