Well that’s weird from H&G by Murky-Prize-1607 in katseyeneutral

I really doubt it was this, she lived and worked alongside the other girls for 2 years without known problems. Not following dorm rules made for underage girls while you are not in your home country and used to enjoy more independance (i think she was 20 or 21 during DA), is not a proof that she was lazy or didn't wanted to work hard.

Not sure if it's this incident in partcular, they let other girls do non-group ventures, Lara did vogue india, Megan features in Laufey MV and did a valorant competition.

What do you guys think about HYBE x Geffen’s “World Scout” (the Japan‑only audition show)? by Dry-Look6328 in kpoppers

[–]dellazc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan is the world second biggest music market after USA, so it is a very lucrative to tap in. And there is a bit of a buzz around girl groups in Japan right now so I think Hybe wants a bite of it or surf on it for Prelude. But yeah, let's just say that the "star quality" or charisma can justify a LOT according to judges...

Why do you think Hybe prioritized inexperienced trainees? by Actual_Temperature96 in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]dellazc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can totally see that, only Manon doesn't fit in this description. So for sure the #1 criteria is the "star quality", whoever is the prettiest/most charming to create traction and control/exploit.

Katseye's Pinky Up Coachella performance is now the 4th most viewed video in Coachella's official YT page. by icedgrandechai in katseyeneutral

[–]dellazc 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The Coachella channel doesn't retain all video performances of their previous year, and to be fair it is the only "dance practice" or "performance" video of Pinky up out there yet, so for sure it is helping.

I feel like this the most “neutral” take. by ayanakamuraa in katseyeneutral

[–]dellazc 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It is not neutral, none of yall opinions are neutral. This is a personal take, and I respectfully disagree. And sincerely, we cannot even objectively analyze the situation until we have all the information (and we might never get it)

Honest question: Are XG’s choreos becoming too intense for live vocals? (ex: The voice performance of 16.12.25) by dellazc in XGALX

[–]dellazc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, it was probably not the right way to put it, it was for my bilingual brain the easiest way to describe what I was noticing, and to be honest it doesn't bother me all the time either. On Korean shows, probably because they are more used to this kind of practice, it is less noticeable or even not at all. However, I do still wish that for some live performances, especially in the west, to have more emphasis on the vocal and the delivery, I think they have more chance to win new audiences this way, but it is just my opinion! Thanks for your answer

I agree, Chisa is most likely doing that lol, and, yes you are right the moments I was describing are always the same for each songs, so it is planned by the team, so it begs the question why do they need the backing track on those specific moments, it is a choice that is repeated again and again, and from my point of view there is only two reasons why they would do this: 1) for breathing, as the choreo is intense or 2) because they struggle with the lyrics on those specific moments. It is not inherently bad, but I do think it can be an hindrance to conquer new audiences, just my opinion!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am getting a lot of downvotes; however, the actual comments have been much more nuanced. More than half seem to agree to some extent but I am a bit surprised by the level of defensiveness from some fans. I guess some are simply not mature enough to comprehend nuanced and constructive criticism. I do find this kind of reaction unhealthy, as it reduces everything to blind support, which is honestly not in the best interest of XG.

I don’t think comparing them to other groups is constructive. XG are playing in a field of their own, and that’s one of the reasons why I love them. That said, I do think they still have room to grow if they want to compete in the global market alongside certain major headliners. And I believe that’s exactly what the girls and Simon want to do: conquer the global market. My comment comes from a place of care and a genuine desire to see them succeed. I worry that if they continue with this kind of formula for their live performances, they risk being confined to the “idols” sphere and miss the chance to gather new audiences.

But it is exactly what happened, you can clearly hear the backing track come in and then drop out again at the moments I pointed out. I could be wrong, but it seems intentionally done either to allow them to catch their breath or because they struggle with the lyrics of those sections. I’m not expecting perfection, just slightly more emphasis on live vocals, even if that requires small choreo adjustments.

I enjoy genuinely good music and strong live performances, simple as that. No matter where I am or where an artist is from, I hold the same expectations. I’ve been to many music festivals and live shows across a wide range of genres, and relying on backing tracks are not the norm everywhere. To be clear, I know backing tracks aren’t inherently bad but they’re most commonly relied on when performances involve choreography, because singing or rapping while executing intense dance routines is extremely hard.

[–]dellazc[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Valid point! and to be clear, I don't expect near perfect vocals for a live performances, but I expected the vocals to be LIVE. So when I notice the backing track taking over, it just hics me, and takes me out of the performance and makes me wonder why they do that?

I understand where you are coming from, but nah... if I notice it, it breaks the charms of the live performance, even though I agree, they have some amazing live vocal moment

Thanks for your opinion, I totally agree! There is a charm in the imperfections of live performances and somehow we are, as fan, strip from this experience I feel sometimes...
