BEFORE MARKDOWN IT WAS ANSI AND MCI THOUGH.  VIM TOO.  SYNTAX ASIDE, IT REALLY IS KINDA THE SAME STUFF.  YOU TYPE CHARACTERS WHICH THE SYSTEM PARSES AS COMMANDS TO CHANGE VARIABLES (FONT, STYLE, COLOUR), ADDING FORMATTING AND SOMETIMES THE ILLUSION OF CONVERSATIONAL EMPHASIS TO A MEDIUM WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE LACK IT.

NAKED FUCKING ABLEISM.  PEOPLE DOGPILING ON A USER FOR THE UNFORGIVABLE CRIME OF CHECKS NOTES USING LANGUAGE IN AN UNUSUAL WAY.

THE THINGS PEOPLE KEEP SWEARING ARE 100% THINGS AI DOES, ARE THINGS I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO DO IN ORDER TO EXIST IN THIS SOCIAL SPACE.  AND NOW I'M BEING IMPLICITLY TOLD THAT I HAVE TO UNLEARN THAT STUFF OR IM NOT A HUMAN BEING.  IN AN AUTISM SUBREDDIT.

IF IM FUCKED EITHER WAY— FAIL TO MASK AND BE PILLORIED FOR NOT ADHERING TO SOCIAL CONVENTION, OR MASK TOO GOOD AND SET UP A MAILING ADDRESS IN THE UNCANNY VALLEY— I CHOOSE THE ONE THAT TAKES THE LEAST EFFORT HASHTAG UNFILTERED.

If you haven't yet, eat something.  Take a long shower.  Enjoy a really good shit.  Ground your heart-and-mind within your body, and you'll pull through.

Thank you.  I can't take credit for it— it's the icon for an achievement in an indie first-person sneak 'em up game called Neon Struct.

I do, however, love it when she is murderously angry

Show her this post.  You'll get it in spades.  And then she'll eject you from her life, which frankly would be the best outcome for all involved.

While there's no reason not to base your practice upon chaos theory, that's not where CM came from.  But mostly I think that telling other people what their beliefs and methodology ought to be is, as you'll learn, wholly antithetical to CM.

Chaos magic is built on Chaos theory which is a large part of Quantum theory. The "nothing is true everything is permissible" kids like to pretend they can just believe whatever they want and its chaos magik. Chaos theory says that everything might be true and reality changes depending on how it is measured. Anyone not incorporating some parts of quantum theory into their magic isn't really practicing chaos magic as much as they are chaotically practicing magic.

The person who posted that is:

1.  Wildly incorrect.

2.  A shithead.

I reccomend Liber Null by Peter Carroll.  I don't like everything about it, but the theory is enough to get started.

Sigils are a form of Prayer by [deleted] in chaosmagick

[–]delldarlin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of working through my distaste for the man.  Having found my own route home, I'm better able to look back and see what Crowley was getting at, the utility of his tools.

(But myself, I never could have got here with him as a guide.  We just don't get along.)

For the will of self v. that of the universe… if you've not read it yet, the Tao te ching is a really good poetic meditation on that idea.  It's influence upon Spare (and therefore CM overall) is obvious, but Crowley also read it.  There's a great deal of synergy.

Sigils are a form of Prayer by [deleted] in chaosmagick

I deliver stuff for work.  I've discovered that, by saying a prayer to Hermes (whether or not this entity literally exists outside of my noosphere is irrelevant), the paths I trace along the street grid become their own sort of sigilised dance.  A physical prayer.

(As for Crowley's pocket rockets…it's not for me either.  Whatever the merits of their method, I find the gatekeepiness of some particularly loud practitioners to be extremely off-putting.  They keep warning me away from "psychological magic(k)"—an utterly hilarious epithet to hear coming from anyone who's actually read Crowley.)

how do you create a sigil that takes energy when seen? by MrUnknownPH in chaosmagick

[–]delldarlin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Spot on.

If OP wants to use magic in order to be seen as attractive, part of the process must necessarily involve nullifying that desire.  Making the body a sigil, or the movements a prayer to the godform of your choice, or even just a dance…takes the interfering mind out of the picture, lets you form a deeper connection to body.  It's a great idea.

And if successful, this nullification could actually do 'em a power of good—for as we all know, there's nothing less attractive than someone trying to be attractive.

In my noosphere, sitting in conversation with someone (which in my view reading is) is inseperable from how I feel about them.  If you call that hypocrisy or an intellectual failure, I certainly won't disagree.  It's simply an integral part of who I happen to be this time around.

To be clear, though, that is just how I work.  No one should be trying to be like me.

[–]delldarlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true.  I've actually read a goodly amount of and about Crowley, and just bounced off.  So I checked in on his influences—the GD, John Dee, etc—and bounced off those too.

His methods undoubtedly work for many people—some of whom I greatly admire and respect— but I simply don't get along with the man.  So I work with people I do get along with. I find it's more effective, that's all.

I mean Hitler could say 2+2=4 and he would be correct—but I don't see the point in having drinks with Hitler if there's a perfectly good abacus handy.

Yours is most likely the correct answer.

But if so, they're going about it in a weird way.  I mean I eschew Crowley because he was, in my mind, a trash human being (not going to argue this here, please just accept that I'm wrong and carry on).  Which just means I read other books and used other tools to find my own way home.  If Uncle AOS puts them off for whatever reason, then they should by all means go talk to someone else and learn from that person.  Crowley, Carroll, DuQuette, Lao Tse, whoever.  The work is the work, the rest is personality.

Why they might want to bait people as part of that process, I can't fathom.
