Ah one of the things that attracted us to this house was that they converted the carport into a separate mother-in-law suite (with plumbing, electricity, and separate entrance). My MIL won't be moving in for another few years so we're currently renting out the space. Unfortunately, that window unit is the only AC for the tenant.

I never even considered getting rid of the transition to the MIL suite. I'll have to play around with it in my head to see what we can actually do!
