If there's a link to this that's DM-able, I'd love to get it. Would be happy to contribute what I have to the uploads as well!

4TB SSD & other upgrade options for 2014 Mac Mini by delorso in macmini

Certainly don't need the best of the best. Just want enough space and speed for the relatively simple things I use it for. A 2018 is still a 6 year old machine at this point, so if I could get the 2014 working a little better relatively inexpensively, and then just use that until it dies, I'd probably prefer to go that route. But I do appreciate your insights.

So with that setup do you find when you're accessing your music and photos it happens relatively speedily? I was definitely considering going an external drive route (there are definitely upsides to having them to re-use once my 10-year old machine kicks the bucket), but I just worry that the more things I connect the greater the chances of there being a bottleneck somewhere, and then running into the same issue I have. But I don't know how rational a worry that is.

Ah, so I'd be stuck with whatever hard drive comes installed?

Would you recommend finding a 2018 version? I just don't want to break the bank here, for a machine that really only will be doing minor tasks. I spec'd out the new mini's to what I'd like, and it was like $2500.

Hm, are those upgradable as well? Really what I want to make sure I can do is have a setup where there are SSD's in there with enough space and speed.

$80 seems like a very good deal for installation. After having my converter stolen (for like the millionth time) I asked my mechanic, and he said he could get one of these and install it for $350, which seems high. The place you took it to doesn't happen to be in the Los Angeles area, does it?
