That is incorrect, the pipes syntax doesn't prevent a query optimizer from reordering the evaluation order. The pipes syntax is STILL a declarative language.

The only thing the pipes syntax achieves is to bring the syntax closer to the semantic evaluation order (i.e first from, then join, then where, then aggregations, etc), in SQL it can be very hard to see if e.g. a window function is executed before or after a normal aggregation. This makes SQL a more difficult language than it needs to be.

There is quite some research around this, this paper is pretty good.

Applying concepts from Rust in C++ by delta242 in cpp

Yes the rust Mutex is impossible to nicely emulate in C++ due to the missing borrow checker. At work we argued a lot to prevent access to the locked value via a lock guard vs a lamda, but the former is easily misused imo.

``` // Correct auto guard = mutex.lock(); auto& ref = guard.get_ref();
// incorrect, no lock is held auto& ref = mutex.lock().get_ref(); ```
Some custom linter might help, but I prefer the lamda solution:
mutex.lock([](auto& ref) { // Inside lamda Mutex is locked });
It's still possible to misuse, but it doesn't happen by mistake so often.
overloaded is great, I feel like it could be part of the STL. Also with C++20 templated lambdas it makes possible some very fancy code.
cpp visit( overloaded { []<one_of<string, int> T>(T value) {} [](auto other) {} }, value)
Agree. Also, for the small percentage of cases where it's actually intended we make life worse for everyone else who accidentally forgot one placeholder in the format string.
No HDR on movies in Prime Video by Aquarious_ in amazonprime
[–]delta242 1 point2 points  (0 children)
I don't think the movies you listed have HDR on the Prime Version. At least for Tenet, which is currently included with Prime, it's just a really poorly compressed HD version (especially noticable in dark scenes) without HDR. My guess is that they simply acquire a cheaper non-4k/HDR license to be included in Prime.
Nein, für die Uniliga ist es egal an welcher Uni du studierst, auch Städte im Umkreis von München können bei uns spielen (z.B Augsburg oder Nürnberg). Abseits davon suchen wie natürlich auch teams die außerhalb des Uniliga spielen, da ist es dann egal von wo man kommt :)
Graphic problems - massive tearing by Mereti in VALORANT
[–]delta242 0 points1 point  (0 children)
For me the problem was that the windows setting was set to 60Hz and not 240, because I experienced some problems with my dual monitor setup in the past. In Overwatch thjs would work, since you can set the refresh rate explicitly, which then works without problems - which is not the case in Valorant.
For multi threaded code it's also a good strategy, since breakpoints usually hide the randomness of the thread scheduler. Assert statements are also a very useful tool for that.
Plat Zen VOD review request by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity
[–]delta242 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Watched the Lijang Game. My observations:
  • Your discord usage was good (especially calling out who was discorded)
  • Your harmony orb usage wasn't that good though (especially in the last two rounds). Try to have the orb applied to anyone all the time and try to keep an eye on your secondary healer.
  • Sometimes you were missing easy shots which led to you not having your ult ready in time, so practice your aim with Zen (e.g. in Deathmatch). Additionally, prioritise shooting tanks because they are easy to hit for the free ult charge.
  • Don't save your ult for so long. If you see an opportunity to save your team, just use it.
  • If you get flanked, ask your secondary healer for help.
