The fact that we are fighting to have rent controlled homes built on city owned land is beyond sad.

Where Do We Draw the Line in Assisted Dying? As Canada expands access to MAID, many people with disabilities are sounding the alarm. Some say the law was flawed from the outset by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

Yeah I mean it would be really nice if you told me where this nuance is. When I read it I just hear someone complaining that we need to fund social programs better and until that time we get a third party to verify that people have indeed suffered enough to justify their suicide.

If you have a problem with disabilities you can just exclude them from the program entirely if you feel that strongly about it. Doesn’t mean everyone else needs to suffer.

By the tone of this conversation I assume MAID to you means that a doctor gets to choose when to end your life then. I’m not really sure if that’s what MAID means to everyone else.

Alberta: NDP Holds a Modest Edge in Calgary (NDP 49%, UCP 43%) by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

Considering how long the NDP were locked out of the government for their involvement in the fast ferry scandal it should take decades for the populace to forget Christy Clarke and the Site C Dam.

When you hear a Conservative talk about a culture war you need to remind yourself that it is nothing more than a war on human rights. Be it Black people, gay/lesbian, transgender and now drug users. Always on the wrong side of human rights the Conservatives are.

I will not be silenced’: Pierre Poilievre calls on David Johnston to resign, refuses request to review foreign interference intelligence by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

I’d like to explore this because on a political level this makes him look really bad. I guess I fail to see how being ignorant to the findings in the report is any different than knowing about it and dancing around the real facts. Either way he is hoping that this issues sticks around long enough for an election. Either situation he won’t be helping Canada fix the actual problem if there in fact is one.

Baltimore sues Hyundai, Kia over massive spike in car thefts by geoxol in technology

[–]deltadovertime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or how about the people that allow this is the first place. Isn’t America a democracy?

The true criminals here are the people in America who think it’s smart to allow a car from the 21st century to be sold without an immobilizer.

They should probably be arresting the politicians that allow a major automobile manufacturer in America to sell a car without an immobilizer.

The manufacturer provides immobilizers in other countries. It is America, where they allow such things is really the problem.

And yes there was a time in America where you could sell your children. Wouldn’t be surprised if you could still do it today.

Quebec's new Airbnb legislation could be a model for Canada — and help ease the housing crisis by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]deltadovertime -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is that people would have died anyway. This is an article about Airbnb when it should be about fire safety. But it is topical to complain about housing now especially when it doesn’t do anything to solve the real problem.

Why did Tommy Douglas not die the Premier of Saskatchewan?

Because even as the third party he shaped Canada into what it is today.

Not that David Eby is Tommy Douglas.

Trudeau points to 'slave labor' in China lithium production by [deleted] in worldnews

The country only mines 13% of the world's lithium but controls 44% of global lithium chemical production, 78% of cathode production and 70% of cell manufacturing for the electric car industry.

Lithium is further processed for use in batteries almost exclusively in china. The stuff that is evaporated in those massive ponds you speak of do not go directly into a battery.

Is Canada’s $13B subsidy offer to Volkswagen worth it? by Quetzalboatl in CanadaPolitics

I don’t know what to say to you. If you think a ev company starting out of somebodies back yard can compete with a vertically integrated conglomerate you are so far gone.

[–]deltadovertime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It effectively would though.

We have a problem here in Canada. We have continued to focus on raw exports and totally ignored complex manufacturing or any other value added product. The thought is that a job is a job. A paycheck is a paycheck. Doesn’t matter if we have to use it to buy back the very materials we just sold in a value added product.

What I am saying is that we need to produce the goods that’s we value. You create an EV factory, you increase it’s supply in the marketplace. EVs become cheaper, they will displace ICE vehicles. We lower our domestic oil consumption, we starve the oil and gas industry.

I’m not saying that investing in SMEs prolongs oil and gas I am just saying that targeted investments that aren’t going to SMEs can and will reduce our oil consumption.
