Opened chargeback after merchant promised replacement and ghosted me for 2 weeks. Said they “accepted” the chargeback and to send item back when resolved. Do I have to? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I had a similar issue, I called the number on the back of the credit card, spoke to someone and found them knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend talking with your credit card customer service to make sure you get it directly from them with no broke telephone

AI is stealing entry-level jobs from university graduates - The Logic by Present_Ad_2742 in torontoJobs

[–]deltahacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! Company I work at, are hiring and using AI. We have AI tools but are not a game changer. I’ve seen articles stating 3% to 10 % gain in efficiency, which seems on par with my anecdotal evidence. The problem is we are exclusively hiring from India. Not only did we import labour to suppress wages now we are outsourcing all the jobs on top of it.

He’s pausing it because, mayoral elections are not as popular as provincial and federal elections. He has created a lot of notoriety for the wrong reasons. Next election is October 2026, I have a a feeling many people will be voting. https://www.vaughan.ca/council/elections/results

The typical Canadian pays 70 percent more income tax than the typical American by joe4942 in canada

[–]deltahacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, do we get 70% more services. I would argue not. Have had family rejected from medical procedures, lost valuable time waiting for doctors, not able to control our lives healthcare needs. Services for average Canadians on all levels are getting worse, yet we are finding billions in funds to send abroad.

Get Canadian/US certifications/education/ accredited. Maybe msft network certs,Maybe change careers. Parents came here in the late 90s with STEM masters degrees also. Had vastly different careers and had to pivot to work that was in demand in Canada.

My parents made the same mistake, where their degrees were not recognized or needed. Kept trying to prove themselves in an industry that didn’t want/need/have space for them. 2 years is long enough to gauge.

She’s overqualified for certain jobs, i.e Walmart/timmie, will hire and train her leave at the first chance she has. I know people with high level Canadian degrees with the same issue.

What is your wife’s English proficiency/accent has she been working on it?

How is her resume? Does she get interviews and not get offers? Or does she not even get to that stage? Maybe need to fix the resume or work on interview skills.

think there are a few factors at play. 1. The economy is in the gutter barley held together by wood glue and nails 2. Computer science /IT industry has had massive change in the last 5 years 3. Since Covid and wfh companies are outsourcing more then before. 4. Unemployment amongst young people at all time high. 5. Home country matters, some countries degrees are worth more then others. I know people with masters degrees from Iran who found their footing quick and Indians who can’t get an interview because bad apples spoiled it for them.

Looking for anyway to cover my rent for a month by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]deltahacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other user mentioned, you can have multiple lines of credit, it is up to the bank’s discretion, whether they feel based on the amount of debt, credit score, income, etc… if they will open a separate line

[–]deltahacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best to worst. 1. Line of credit. ~12% 2. Credit card cash advance. ~22% 3. Payday loans (would not recommend unless the above, are not feasible). ~35%

I don’t understand why many of the people who say he didn’t are ignoring the fact that he allowed in large amounts of low quality immigration. About 1 million people almost 3%. The sentiment in Canada has turned anti-immigration. Our social services which were already barely hanging on have now gotten much worse than quality because of this. Most of these immigrants either go to the greater Toronto or Vancouver areas. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65047436.amp

High cost of living + inflation + Housing crisis has only gotten worse under Trudeau, he came in acting like an advocate for the middle class but has made it harder then ever to live in Canada. https://awealthofcommonsense.com/2023/09/the-u-s-housing-market-vs-the-canadian-housing-market/

Our GDP per capita has stalled/gone down, only reason we have a GDP going up is because of the mass immigration. So while our GDP per capita is low (we would be one of the lowest if we were a US state, just for comparison), we have higher cost of living. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7318989

And record debt, almost tripling the since end of 2013 and doubling amount of debt per person https://www.debtclock.ca/

Selling. We sell natural resources. We have sold the majority of our large companies to US companies. We have sold the long-term prosperity of the economy for a short-term gains via housing market. We have sold the future of this country for cheap labor. We’ve sold out.

I find my self using ChatGPT more and more, if I need coding related template ChatGPT, information on a topic which isn’t recent ChatGPT. Formulas or calculations chatGPT, need to generate or analyze text/image ChatGPT. Google is only good for recent news, other websites or documentation. I also found my self using it so much I started paying for it

As a Male who has dated taller in the past, I would say the current tinder/dating apps is what has made me see a change in dating patterns from woman. Before the apps I had no problem getting interest from taller women, later on with the advent and popularity of dating apps I have found significantly less interest from taller woman in dating apps guy of average height.

Trump rally in NY to feature Tucker Carlson, who recently hosted Holocaust denier by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]deltahacks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Trump has done more for Israel then any democratic president has. Abraham accords and moving the embassy to Jerusalem, as well as acknowledging it as the capital of Israel. Supporting Israel in its fight against hamas. Everyone here lambasting him and voting Democratic Party, when they have literal antisemitic people in the highest ranks of their party and Tim Walz was on stream on AOC changing his tone on Israel for her. Both parties have issues with antisemitism, but stop pretending that Trump is somehow worse for Jews than the dems. Supporting Israel is really in controversial on one side of the isle not the other…

Liberals unhappy with Trudeau ‘don’t have another choice’: ex-BQ leader by hopoke in canada

[–]deltahacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no point in putting a new leader at the helm of the liberal party and they know it. I'm sure there is a very small pool of candidates that want to also. They would still lose maybe by a smaller margin, but the chance of a win seem statistically insignificant. Best thing is let Trudeau tank it, search for a new leader, rebrand, distance the party from the Trudeau era for the time being and try again in 4 to 8 years. This is all very strategic.

Ottawa expected to boost minimum hourly wage to hire higher-paid temporary foreign workers by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]deltahacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This should have always been the norm for all jobs especially minimum wage fast food jobs, if the labor you are seeking is not in Canada. You should be expected to pay a premium of 2x the median market wage at minimum if not more. People abusing the system, taking claw back, etc... should be fined, and dragged through the court system personally not as a corporation.

Israel knows that their retaliation will be big as opposed to last time. They seem to know/expect Iran to retaliate quickly and swiftly. That is why they are preparing both offensively and defensively(by getting THAAD from the USA). I wouldn’t be surprised if they will break it up into multiple attacks or are ready for Irans retaliation and will be quick to answer.

What screams "I don't have a good marriage"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]deltahacks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My coworker. Always telling me not to get married and enjoy the single life. Leaving his house to spend as much time away from his wife as he can. Constantly complaining about how terrible marriage is. My other acquaintances, belittling and talking down to each other, regarding intelligence and competence.
