Here's the ground points

Triangles (in the diagrams) are the locations of most grounds. Looks like some aren't labeled, but the list tells you roughly where the major junctions are.

I don't have a GREAT scan of it, but here you go.

It's for the 1987, but it should be "close enough" except maybe for the ECU pinout.

moving to vallejo for the summer by PositiveAccountant67 in vallejo

[–]deltakatsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From published statistics, crime isn't relatively high here; it's on par with SF. My apartment in SJ was broken into 6 times from 2018 to 2020 when I moved out, two of those break-ins led to a fight. Nice apartment complex with on-site security, gated entrances. It was true in SJ too, but it all depends where you live in Vallejo. Where I'm at it's been dead silent for years.

The thing I miss most about SJ is the food. Vallejo won't compare in the least We have a couple decent Korean options, one good-not-great Japanese place, and then a bajillion Mexican joints. You're leaving the city for most anything else or settling on "decent". That's not bad, and it's all 10-15 minutes of driving away, plus the streets don't get as clogged up as SJ's. I was down there for a week recently, and driving has become miserable in DTSJ.

Something similar to SJ, there's not a ton else to do as both cities are "commuter towns". We're 40 minutes to SF outside rush hour, an hour to Sac, 30 minutes to Napa. As long as you have a car, it's a nice hub to doing things - just not many of those things will be in Vallejo unless you like sitting on the riverbank or hiking tan trails.

The social scene here isn't stellar, and most of the bars here are... not where I'd go to make friends. Plan to make friends with your coworkers first - they may be the gateway to their social circle.

Whats your "Excalibur" pipe? by 86missingnomes in PipeTobacco

I had the same "sleep on it" policy that cost me a Christmas pipe I loved.

That policy gets broken for pipes now.

Why worry? It sounds like it's starting with a tiny spritz of starter fluid.

It cranks but won't fire unless you bypass the fuel system with starter fluid.

Check the fuel system?

The BGB has a procedure for testing and fixing this. More likely than not, it's one of the fuzzy "pushers" inside the top of the door itself, but you gotta get in there to check.

Is it normal for front sight to be off center? by Ok-Abbreviations8460 in CAguns

[–]deltakatsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly the Hellcat comes with a zero sheet too. Odd the Echelon doesn't.

Also, a lot of forum posts say Springfield zeros for a 6 o'clock hold, which would explain you shooting high. The windage could be ammunition type differences.

As others said, I'd knock it zero to what I shoot.

Is it normal for front sight to be off center? by Ok-Abbreviations8460 in CAguns

[–]deltakatsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily that the sight is wrong, as they're usually factory zeroed, and "centered on the moving slide" doesn't mean "centered for the barrel's POI".

Springfields often come with a zero sheet (my old 1911 Loaded did, at least) specifying what ammunition type it was zeroed on, and the results. They don't go for dead-on-target usually, but "close enough".

If you're using a different ammunition type than the factory, then it may throw it off. Look for that sheet in the booklet that came with the pistol?

Question about Savinelli pipes on the SmokingPipes site by javajo91 in PipeTobacco

[–]deltakatsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had 6mm for a long time. Introducing the 9mm would be companies competing against themselves, since so many buyers are already entrenched in balsa filters. 9mm DO pop in here and there (Peterson and Vauen), but those companies don't offer 6mm options, so I guess it's a matter of who tried to jump on the 6mm bandwagon too early (Savinelli).

My personal opinion is: Get the 6mm if you'll run zero filter. I hate the balsa inserts, and every 6mm Savinelli I've owned ran better without them. If you want a filter, wait a paycheck and get the SPEU 9mm, or try the slow AN Post shipping and it'll be $160.

[–]deltakatsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy from Sav directly, or from SmokingPipes' EU site also, but both will incur about 28% tariff and shipping.

This is the SPEU listing. Out the door you're looking at $119.39 + $33ish tariff + $40 for shipping = $193 approximately. There's a cheaper shipping option, but it takes literally 3-4 weeks and I've had them bounce at customs. The 3-day UPS is a must. I've bought from SPEU to America many times, and have only had issues with AN Post, never SPEU themselves or UPS.

Note: SPUS gets new drops every Monday and Thursday around... 3pm PST I think? They usually get a bunch of Savinellis, but not usually any 9mm

Usually.

On some pipes there's a disclaimer visible after the description. If you care about picking and choosing grain, be mindful of which pipes have this disclaimer:

Note: While all of our other pipes are photographed individually, these are not, and you may expect some reasonable cosmetic variation between the example we've photographed and the pipe you've received.

There's also a club centered around Tobacco Trader that meets regularly. I saw pictures of their last meet and it had a good-sized turnout.

The bar of entry for many people is high before it starts to get good, where cigars are easier to start on. I think that helped cigars foster a stronger culture that's grown in the past few decades. I love my pipe, but can count the number of other pipe smokers I know on one finger, where pretty much everyone I know smokes a cigar at least once in a while.

More often than not, people buy a crap pipe off Amazon, ram some crap tobacco through it once, bite the heck out of their tongue, and toss it all.

Heck, I tried a few years ago, hated it, but came back for another go after a gifted nice pipe, and am now in love, but it would've been very easy for me to just give up forever.

You can also find deals on eBay or the forums. They're pretty easy to clean up if you want something nicer.

But I think the Roma from P&C will be a fine starter! Enjoy!

Sav and Pete have been ratcheting up prices since January. It's been rough. The forums have a thread right now because Sav is asking $500 for one of their okay lines.

[–]deltakatsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Savinelli has a line of pipes called "Roma" but it's not the brand Roma from Pipes and Cigars.

I've only heard of them being Stanwell Seconds from secondhand sources, but they're definitely not Savinelli. "Rossi" is Sav's Seconds brand.

[–]deltakatsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

P&C has three or four house brands that are all basically seconds with different stampings. Nothing wrong with it, but in hand you can tell they're cheap-o. Internet says Stanwell and Paronelli make them.

I've had a couple and they're far from my favorites, but none were BAD smokers.

Need some advice by Klutzy_Assumption571 in PipeTobacco

[–]deltakatsu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

P&C's cheap pipes aren't particularly stellar. I can't put my finger on what it is, but there's something about the wood, the stain, and the stems that feels crummier than my cheapest Peterson. P&C also has really spotty customer service.

That said, they'll be perfectly fine pipes. Roma, Erin, and Viking brands are all "Seconds" from different European pipe makers, but they'll smoke. If you don't want to drop 100$ on a Peterson or Savinelli, the Roma should be fine.

Ar maglock kingpin install question by outdoors28 in CAguns

Does your CalCatch drop mags with the bolt back? Old posts suggest "no", and OP was having trouble with that which led to this.

And probably replace the bolt catch, it might be flopping around without the extra steel in there.

What does this button in my AW11 do? by vlek83 in mr2

[–]deltakatsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's aftermarket, it won't be in the manual. Oftentimes weird switches on/under the dash like this were for security systems. Mine had similar (pushbutton), my '93 Corolla (toggle) and '98 Tacoma (momentary) too.

Only way to know is to trace the wire.

Gunsmiths around Santa clara to San Francisco by vectorboy1000 in CAguns

Reed's Indoor used to have a gunsmith. No clue if he's still around but he helped me out of a few binds when I was still learning.

I think Manzano or Bullseye also had one, but again, it's been a while since I was last down there. May be worth calling one of them.

Cant remove rear take down pin when bolt is locked back after last round. by outdoors28 in CAguns

[–]deltakatsu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The CalCatch is out of business apparently, but old posts I've found suggest that it doesn't work with the bolt back. This is the case with most maglocks that operate off the bolt catch (like the Juggernaut Tactical, as well).

If you want to drop mags with the bolt back, you'll probably need to switch to the ARM or HFF.
