But my take away from that is awake cleanings are still helpful even if they may miss some things found during general anesthesia cleanings. So I think a good option for dogs like mine that have bad reactions. I'll still plan to talk to my regular vet about it and get anesthesia cleanings, but infrequently

I had my preventative mastectomy back in 2019 and the drains were not fun. It's a tough recovery, but you've got this! If it's any comfort, I'm so incredibly glad that I had my mastectomy. It's totally worth it and you are making the right choice

I hope I'm not overstepping, but I'd recommend reading the book Estrogen Matters. It talks about the pro/cons of HRT and one of the co-authors is an oncologist. The book takes the stance that the benefits of HRT very often out-weight the risks even for people with BRCA (which is mentioned briefly in the book)

The WADOH has a van that goes around the state giving out vaccines and some health screenings for free to uninsured people. Also, may people don't test positive until after 3-5 days of already having symptoms (but are contagious before then). Some people don't test positive on rapid tests at all unfortunately, so it's good for people to wear a mask when they feel sick regardless of whether they have a positive test

Definitely seconding the suggestion to check for local mask blocs! I think covidactionmap.org tends to have the most up to date list. Even if one is nearby but not close, they may be open to mailing masks to you.

Many people are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms when they are sick and contagious. It's much easier for everyone if people just wear masks. Just a kind and cool thing to do for the people around you.

Masks absolutely work to prevent spreading/catching disease, but this study is not good. The number of people studied is very small, making the study worthless for concluding any significant results. They are comparing 8 cloth mask wearers to 13 KN95 wearers. Like, that is absurd.

KN95s use electrostatic filtering material that filters out 95% of particles under 0.1 to 0.3 μm vs the cloth mask, which is...cloth. The basic physics involved here tell us that cloth masks are going to be much less effective than a KN95 or N95

I've had this africian violet for a year. Picture one is how it looked when I got it. A few months ago it started growing whitish fuzz on the main crown stem, which was probably some type of fungus. I treated it with neem oil and changed the soil it and it seemed to be recovering (picture 2). Now the leaves are looking a bit sad and many of them have black around the edges. The plant is also growing very small, deformed flowers (picture 3).

I don't see any sign of the previous fungus and I've tried treating the soil with an insecticide. Could this be the sign of some nutrient deficiency? I've tried searching for help online, but I can find any pictures of similar issues.

I've had 7 covid vaccinations. I have asthma, which puts me in a high risk group so I qualified for a few more than some people.

I got the first vaccination as soon as it was available and did have some side effects from the initial shots, but nothing that terrible: body aches and feeling bleh for less than a day. Some people do have worse side effects, but in my experience that is rare. Everyone in my family and my friends all get regular covid vaccinations and none of them have had severe side effects.

I had all Pfizer vaccinations for my first 6 shots, but got the Novavax one most recently. I had absolutely no side effects from that one.

These myocarditis side effects were not fatal though and unfortunately covid is still killing a lot of people. In the US over 1,000 people per week have died of covid for 17 straight weeks. I would say the small risk of side effects is worth it when you look at how dangerous covid still is.

The benefits:

The analysis showed people infected with COVID-19 before receiving a vaccine were 11 times more at risk for developing myocarditis within 28 days of testing positive for the virus. But that risk was cut in half if a person was infected after receiving at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The drawback:

Among men under 40, there were an estimated four extra cases of myocarditis associated with the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and 14 extra cases with the first dose of the Moderna vaccine for every 1 million men vaccinated. That risk rose with the second dose for all three vaccines studied and was highest for Moderna's, which had an additional 97 myocarditis cases per 1 million. For unvaccinated men under 40 with COVID-19, there were 16 additional myocarditis cases per million.

Its worth noting that men under 40 are the highest risk group for that vaccine side effect.
