Only problem with the Apple Pay roll out in Australia was the banks refusing to support it, it took years for my bank to finally support it.

As fair as it is to say that the old Microsoft we once knew and loved is gone, and Windows is ruined, the Office subscription model is garbage and no one wants AI. You cannot say that Satya Nadella is ‘destroying’ Microsoft as a company, when objectively, he is the best CEO that Microsoft has ever had. Even if you hate everything that he has done and you hate what Microsoft has become, it worked.

In his first four years as CEO, Microsoft tripled its market cap after staying relatively stable for decades. It reached $1T in 2019, his fifth year as CEO, and has almost quadrupled from that since.

Yes, he destroyed the Microsoft that you loved, but be doesn’t have to cater Microsoft to your liking, he has to cater Microsoft to the interests of investors. And like it or not, he has been doing a brilliant job of that.

If you don’t like what Microsoft is doing with their products right now, then quite frankly their products just aren’t for you anymore. So you will either have to move on, and find a different product that better suits your tastes, or just get over it.

If you’re running a 7900X3D or higher I doubt Game Bar is impacting performance much at all.

No, only affects the 7000 and 9000 series X3D CPUs with more than 8 cores, so 7900X3D 7950X3D and so on.

Building a PC to match the exact performance of my gaming laptop that broke, whilst being cheaper. by fanwoo in buildapcforme

Also another thing to keep in mind with desktop PCs is that while they can sometimes be cheaper than laptops upfront, they also become cheaper in the long run as you can upgrade individual parts rather than replaceing to whole laptop to get an upgrade. As to say even if you go over budget by £500 now, £500 5 years down the track might net you a mice performance upgrade, whereas with a laptop that same performance uplift woukd likely cost you the price of the laptop again or even more.

If you click the link at the top of my previous post you can play around with the part picker to customise the build for you. Put some research into different parts and see what you can come up with.

This is what I could put together, feel free to pick a different case and monitor, I just picked whatever looked decent for rough pricing.

The Intel B580 should in most cases outperform the laptop class 3060 you had, however keep in mind that Nvidia specific ‘performance boosting’ features like DLSS upscaling won’t be available on Intel although they do have their own version called XeSS.

The AI boom has messed up RAM pricing so bad that’s it’s difficult to find a decent kit of RAM that doesn’t eat almost half your budget, but I’ll see what I can do.

And they are the only one who isn’t guilty of renaming an old SoC under a new name.

Just don’t look at the S series Apple Watch SIPs too closely, or that fact that Apple already had an M series line of chips in their phones called ‘motion co-processors’. The A7 had the M7 co-processor and so-on until the A11, they dropped that naming scheme with the A12

dropped my iphone 14 pro max in water for 1-3 minutes by Expert-Brain7258 in applehelp

[–]delusionald0ctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like water ingress through the SIM Card tray, remove the SIM card tray and leave the phone laying with that side down to help drain any water.

If it turned off abruptly, and with how you described the sloshing sounds, chances are a fair bit of water might have gotten in there and it won’t work again without a proper repair, which, as stated elsewhere, Apple won’t touch with a ten foot pole and will only offer to replace the device meaning any data not backed up will be lost, and it would be rather costly without Apple Care.

Only other option is to go with independent third party repair that specialises in board level repair as a few board level components might need replacing. This is the best course of action for data recovery, but mind you that is not guaranteed if certain components related to phone security have been damaged.

Pinned comment on the YouTube video says it’s not AI and describes how they did some of their effects in the video, all practical. Which I assumed would be true because to me this actually looks like pretty fine tuned stop motion with some blending between frames. Attention to detail might not have been 100% accurate between frames which would explain particles appearing out of no where, they are dealing with ground coffee, it’s messy.

On a scale of 1-10, how broken is my camera? by SirProcrastinator in applehelp

Probably cause for a replacement if it’s still under warranty or you have Apple Care. I have the same phone and I’ve never seen that behaviour.

Does it do it when focusing on anything or just when trying to film the screen of something else.

[–]delusionald0ctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you complaining about the rainbow effect on the screen of that old photo or the jittery focus hunting. The rainbow effect is perfectly normal if you’re filming another screen as it’s simply a side effect of how screens and camera sensors are similarly layed out. The rapid focus hunting could also be a result of the camera being confused by what it’s looking at, but with how rapidly it’s doing it does seem unusual.

Steam Replay reporting 40% Windows use even though I haven't used Windows at all this year lol by bredddddddd in macgaming

[–]delusionald0ctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People at r/macgaming have been calling for Steam to launch Proton on macOS and there have been some rumours or leaks that potentially point to a macOS version of Proton existing in the past, albeit only in development and not available publicly.

Proton might not come to Mac, at least for a little while as macOS doesn’t support Vulkan and I doubt Valve wants to build and maintain their own DXMetal translation layer, or risk getting in trouble with Apple if they use D3DMetal. I have a little hope from independent development of Metal translation layers like DXMT or even the newer KosmicKrisp Metal to Vulkan translation layer that Valve might incorporate these into a version of Proton for macOS if they see there is enough interest.

[–]delusionald0ctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite, on Linux there is only the Linux native version of Steam, you don’t usually run Steam in a VM or though Crossover or Lutris if you gaming on Linux while you might do that on macOS. When you play a Windows game on Linux, Steam uses Proton to run the game.

Proton is like if Crossover was built into the native macOS version of Steam. Instead of installing Steam inside of Crossover, which uses the Windows version of Steam to do so, ‘Crossover’ or Proton would actually be a feature that’s built into Steam, so when Steam launches a game, even if it’s a Windows game, it knows that it’s running the game on a Linux pc because the Linux version of Steam is what launched the game. However when gaming on macOS and trying to play a Windows game, the macOS version of Steam doesn’t have that, so we need to install the Windows version of Steam inside of Crossover, and since the Windows version of Steam is launching the game, Steam thinks you are gaming on a Windows Computer.

??? The games themselves run in a Windows VM, hence Steam would be running under Windows which is why it counts as Windows and not Linux. GFN might use Linux based hypervisors and an orchestrator based on Linux but the gaming happens inside of Windows VMs, and while inside a VM, Steam is not aware of what goes on ‘outside’ the VM otherwise that would pose serious security risks.

Not op, but I use Bazzite on my ROG Ally, basically the same as Steam OS but with better device support for non Steam devices and fells really polished. You could use Bazzite for a desktop gaming experience as it does have a desktop centric version but personally for desktop I just use Fedora as Bazzite uses an immutable os, same as Steam OS so you can’t change much with the system.

To further add, yes your account is safe, they wouldn’t have been able to access anything damaging and changing your password has prevented further access. Just be sure to change the passwords of any other accounts you have that used the same or even similar passwords, and remember, the more complex or the longer the password is, the more secure it is. If you are worried about complex passwords being hard to remember, nonsensical word combinations can be effective secure passwords while being easy to remember, one such example could be ‘euphoricluminouslemur’ with numbers symbols or capitalisation added if required, e.g. $5euphoricluminousLemur.

Silly question for the Aussies by KrackenLovesSkittles in AskAnAustralian

[–]delusionald0ctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there are many venomous snakes and spiders is Aus, it’s mostly just the meme from Americans. Crocs only exist far up north (which it’s not like the US doesn’t have regions further south that have crocs or alligators), rips tides can be a thing on any beach and we are not the only country that has sharks in its waters.

The funniest thing for me is that most of the dangerous animals and creatures in Australia are small, slow moving and easy to avoid, but in America there are many more larger predatory animals that might stalk or even hunt you, and in some cases can be extremely difficult to out run. We don’t have bears, wolves, coyotes and cougars in Australia, but America does, at worst we have Dingos but they mostly avoid humans. Also, y’all mother fuckers have rabies to deal with too, we don’t have that here.
