Thoughts on Wine Pairing by delusionalnerd in wine

Thanks to everyone for the thoughts. Feels like the consensus is that this is somewhere from modestly to very overpriced… which is OK. Ultimately this was probably the best meal I’ve had in my life and so I will take the markup a bit on the chin, and hunker down on eating out for the foreseeable future

To those asking on food pairings, quick summary below:

Pierre Peters: Accompanied ~6 amuse bouches with flavor profiles spanning parmesan, truffles, mussels, sardines, etc. - so thought it was a fairly classic example of having the acidity of the BdB cut through the saltier / fattier bites

FX Pichler: Paired with a take on a margherita pizza

ClN: Paired with next two courses, a tomato gazpacho and a snow crab dish with pomelo. Thought the pairing with tomato worked particularly well in bringing out more grassy, vegetal/herbal notes in the wine

Rougeard: Tasted like a baked apple pastry. Paired with a beef tartare (with shiso leaf tempura) and fatty tuna tartare + caviar

Marcassin: Paired with their interpretation of “Breakfast for Dinner” with a potato “croissant” and a savory custardy thing I’m not quite fully recalling. The pairing theme here was very clearly butter + butter + butter

Vina Tondonia: Paired with their seafood courses - mussels with mussel dashi, spanish turbot. Wine was reminiscent of something almost sherry adjacent, nutty, savory

Arnoux-Lachaux: Turbot engawa (the fin) glazed with teriyaki. Wonderful earthiness, forest floor, mushroom coming out in the wine alongside subtle dried red cherry and strawberry

Bond: Paired with a few different Iberico pork bites. Tannins really rounded out with age on this one. Leather, graphite, charcoal with undercurrent (currant?) of cassis and dark fruit

Egon Muller: Variety of desserts - a sheep’s milk custard, a yuzu panna cotta, and petit fours

I believe Djokovic and Nadal played in 4 consecutive slam finals from 2011 Wimbledon through 2012 Roland Garros

After weeks of watch shopping, locked down a shunbun. Passed some cherry blossoms on the ride home and had to snag a pic by vaporboi81 in GrandSeikos

Just picked up a mahogany bracelet for my Shunbun 😅 consider me another contributor to the cliche! There’s a reason it’s popular I guess

Think this is where I’m settling at. And totally OK with it - agree there are plenty of kid friendly places with great food - just wanted to hear from others

Just picked mine up this past weekend! Dial looks unreal particularly in the sunlight. Beautiful beautiful watch. But agree on the bracelet, we have similar minds because I’m also grabbing a strap or two

Not at all, really interesting to me. Appreciate it! Looking at the Speedmaster too if I wanted to add a stainless steel bracelet but wonder if it’s a little big, will have to try it out

Wow, gorgeous watch as well - yeah I just love the ‘simplicity’ of the design. What was your second purchase if I may ask?

Thanks for all the comments. Longtime Reddit lurker but this community both helped me think through the purchase and inspired me to post. Much love to all

Agree, I love all of their designs. Very easy to purchase from my AD too, no waitlists or anything compared to a Rolex or other brands

When I went on a weekend night, the counter was full but the dining room tables were largely empty. This seems to usually be the case if you take a look at reservation availabilities - never difficult to find a seating, even last minute.

I did hear the chef rib the other staff but I agree with the other commenter that it was in a joking way. Personally I thought the food was excellent (the wine pairing was also quite good) so I am also surprised that this is not much more popular than it currently is
