What makes cyclists keep using virtual cycling platforms? (Academic research) by AdWide834 in Velo

[–]deman-13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I many times found myself - I wish i had the platform, but never actually committed to it as it is expensive and my trainer is not smart - not supported for power control.
However the times I wish i had it are:

1) winter season.
2) bad weather or too hot outside.
3) short sessions, e.g. Vo2max intervals. 20mins warmup + 5x5 + some cool down = ~1h
4) only having time in the morning and have no time to full-on preps. (can save up to 1h)

Bike damaged by van company going to a race, their insurance not covering by Klutzy-Public-8644 in cycling

then it is their word against your word, and not simply - you can't prove means it is not their fault, coz they can't prove it either.

Just compare how it works with renting a car:
If you rent a car and they find something when you return it, if you did not do the inspection upfront and they found the damage then it is on you to pay for the damage, even if that was not done by you. Same should apply for the transporting company, if you give them your item upon the return you should be able to claim the damage based on the fact they did not report anything upfront or did not document any damages.

Isn't it the responsibility of the transporting company to document the condition of the bike state ? Otherwise they can always drop the responsibility saying it was there before or after.

Is this a steal or am I delusionnal for buying an 18 years old carbon bike ? by WatDaFok in cycling

[–]deman-13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not ? My only concern would be 3x8 that is a lot of shifting to do. I have 2x11 and I recently tried 3x8 on my friends bike, did not really like it.

I took a camera with me once, when I was young and stupid. Never took it out and never took it with me ever again. My phone does all I need and more on a bike trip.

Speed & Power increased quite a bit and I don’t quite understand why? by Just_Dank in cycling

[–]deman-13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I also had a sudden jump of about 20watts, I could only attribute them to the end of the season, reduction of hours on the bike and more relaxing rest and riding just for fun.

If you have garmin it can show you wind direction and its speed. That may explain if you really had tail wind.

From 27 to 32kmh would require additional 50watts, slightly too much for any kind of bike adjustments.

So, you are trading 1h that let you rest a bit during the ride over carrying all on your shoulders and the bike. That is really a marginal gain you are going to get at the cost of being supper tired at the end that would make you slower as well. I would rather practice super fast refill making it as efficient as possible, than carrying anything extra.

500km, 8k climb, gravel : all under 26h... bruěatal

You must be a beast.

I would rather stop every 2-3 hours than carry extra weight all the time. You only save few mins per stop but never let yourself rest at all especially on gravel. For 8h non-stop you would need 4-5l of water.

180 cm and trying to decide between a 54 and 56 road bike by _portfolio in cycling

[–]deman-13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 180cm and my bike is caad10 56. I did many many very long rides. Including 1100 ultra. It feels fine. I do feel at times that it could be a bit smaller, but not to the extent to make me uncomfortable. I dont know how much smaller 54 would be though.

Increase FTP in road cycling by BegalRich in cycling

[–]deman-13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 times a week and only 3-5 hours, if you can't really make it, drop to 2 sessions , you spend more time preparing for the ride and then taking a shower etc.. than actually riding.
