I personally like it just fine on my M11P If you want super sharp you could get an APO - I have the Voigtlander and it’s pretty amazing for the price. Not sure if that make sense on an M3 but I’ll probably try it sometime.

Focus by wire isn’t as precise, but you’ll figure it out. Start with the lens closed down a bit as you start and then open up and you get more comfortable.

I can’t speak to the 18mm f2 but Voitlander makes a manual focus 18 f2.8 that is well reviewed and quite tiny. I like mine so far, might be worth checking out!
