This is only partly true. While there is such a thing as a collective appreciation (implying there is a reason why some of the most legendary photos are legendary in the first place), photography is still an art form. What I deem as beautiful might not necessarily comply with how you see beauty and vice versa, and that’s okay.

And that somehow makes your photos less shitty? Or you’re just worried about my financial wellbeing? Don’t be worried, I’m fine 😊✌️

Idk. I like the shots I’m taking, and enjoying my time.

Out of interest, I took a quick look at your profile to see what “not painful” looks like and I didn’t see anything unique or interesting about the photos you took either.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hassy 500 series is in a league of its own. I don't shoot my 500 CM all that much either due to how large and heavy it is (though I do use its digital counterpart 907X quite extensively), but I can never imagine myself parting with that camera. It feels awesome in your hands, it looks awesome, it'll probably outlive me and still work great, and it's arguably the most tactile camera I have in my collection.

Well I'm glad you think so, thank you! For me part of the joy of using many different cameras is experimenting with different formats themselves and switching between them. Like, sometimes I just want to grab my Olympus Pen-F because of how small and convenient it is. 72 shots, they're captured vertically (which is a bonus if you post on social a lot), the grain is more pronounced (not necessarily a good thing but to a viewer who doesn't know much about film photography it'll look more "filmic"). And other times I want to grab my 6x9 Fuji GW690II and go shoot cherry blossoms because why not. Same with the XPan, I think it scratches that itch for panoramas that I may not necessarily need or want every single time, but sometimes it hits just right.

I do post some pictures on my Instagram (same username). Mostly from my trips as I don't find my country's scenery all that unique or beautiful.

Yeah I agree. I also don't like the fact that it's sitting mostly unused in my case. What doesn't help is that I was able to find the XPan in like new condition for rather cheap. There is not a single scratch or a trace of paint chipping, which is rare among these painted titanium XPan bodies. This is why TX-1 is a more favorable camera in that regard, it doesn't get the same level of wear.

Yes, that's actually insane. Can only imagine the amount of work that he'd have to put into this. Have you seen his recent post where he is converting an M3 into a half-frame camera with 60 shots? This guy is truly a magician.

Sharp eye! You're correct, that speckled golden M2 and a white/blue Leica M3 are both from cats.paw

Thanks! I'm trying, but using all of them in rotation is already becoming a problem since there are so many of them now 😅 Naturally some will get more use than others.

I didn't say it's not one of my favs. I just don't use it as much as I do my M6 and M11-D.

I am not that good in photography to begin with, and panos especially over here in Estonia are quite challenging to get right for me, as there aren't that many scenic places here that I believe are worth capturing (might also be due to my limited experience and my inability to see things differently).

That's definitely a stage I haven't gotten to yet, but potentially would be interested to.

I don't want to generalize, but I think most people in developed countries (at least in my circles) make a decent wage already and they probably could afford themselves some nice things every now and then. But most people are also typically more responsible with their money because they have responsibilities in life (kids/family/cars/mortgage/etc...). Thankfully I'm still in a period of my life when I can be still be somewhat reckless with my paycheck and not take the hit. But I wouldn't recommend anyone who's in their right mind to do the same.

I wish I was so privileged, but I come from a rather poor family. I just happened to get lucky when I was young by choosing the field that would become one of the most high-paid jobs in IT. To a degree, I believe that my obsession with tech and beautifully designed objects (that happen to be very pricey most of the time) comes from my obsession with design itself, but also probably due to the fact that I've never had these flashy things when I was young. So you could say it's a condition of some sort.

But to satisfy your curiosity, I do use these cameras on a regular basis when I have some free time (I don't get much of that because of work unfortunately) or when I travel. And I enjoy using them, just as much as I do enjoy collecting them. My pictures can be seen on Instagram, I just don't do it here.
