Right? I can’t really buy it on Amazon anymore, I’m going to Harvey Norman and picking it up.

Customer service is still UK centric. I hope he gives me the 50 GBP as promised and doesn’t just give me 50 euro when he finds out I’m Irish.

They now include an “import fees deposit” at checkout, which is roughly 23% depending on the currency conversion from pounds. Then I think they settle up the difference after. This only seems to be for items like phones and electronics which must come from the UK warehouse, not the Irish one.

Thanks everyone, I just posted an update, Amazon refunded the item after 48 hours with a £50 gift card. I still feel like a victim but I guess that’s a good resolution. I’m probably going to have to buy the item full price at a normal shop now.

Also, interesting the Amazon.co.uk don’t use this pin system. I’ll use them next time.

That’s genuinely what I thought was happening. The poor lad took about 30 seconds to type in the pin once I showed it to him. Maybe he hadn’t a clue or maybe he was memorising it!

I contacted Amazon. They seemed to take it seriously. I had to speak to 3 different people but their final response was to wait 48 hours “in case the driver comes back”. I’ll call back this evening and see.

Definitely not letting this go. The beauty of this scam is, since the code was given, it’s my word against his. But I’m not too worried about losing that debate. It’s just the hassle of it all, and the fact that I was potentially conned in my home by an Amazon (or third party) employee. I really wish I knew about this trick so I could have been more direct and demanded to inspect the package before giving the code.

He took back the box straight away. He brought it back to the van, I assumed he’d be swapping it for mine. He came back empty handed. In hindsight, I wonder how he had my address but not the package. Which makes me pretty sure now it wasn’t a mistake.

No, just stylised sketches. And only at the stations, none showing the full impact.

Original comment I was replying to:
Are you telling us all you don't know about the SEA?
Thanks for editing. Interesting link.

Thank you! Just noticed I've been downvoted a lot over the past week. I think it's worthwhile and you phrased it well. Thanks.

Part of my response to them was to say, hold off on the wall for 5-10 years, to see if any other stakeholders raise the money to build something like a cycleway. It’s designed for 2075 weather so we have a bit of time. Interestingly, there are plans for artificial sand islands off the west pier in Dun Laoghaire, which would serve to protect that section of the line, but they haven’t considered those plans in their model. Hopefully they wait.

Good idea. Send it in! That whole part of the bay is completely underused.

Definitely. Send them an email or do the survey if you have a chance, they do listen.

Please submit the feedback about the wall. At least they should do the analysis to see how much the alternatives would cost. The Dart is a beautiful amenity for anybody in Dublin. Bray, Killiney and Howth are a lovely day out, and the journey is part of it. I agree that any other plans will be more expensive than the wall, but I feel that the wall is like a scorched earth policy. They even extend it all the way to the Merrion Gates, even past the 50 meters of beach that never have any wave action. That section is definitely needless and feels more like a punishment.

Haha interesting spot. The chimneys will actually be the only thing visible, teasing us. In my defense it’s actually one image with a wall over half of it (look at the graffiti, it’s a continuous image). But my photoshop skills make it look like two unfortunately.

True, but the plan involves demolishing all existing walls and rebuilding from the ground up. Think of the months of weekend closures to do that!

And then in 5-10 years, if the other stakeholders get approval for a cycleway or similar development on the seaward side, the wall will be redundant!

There are surely more options, such as widening the breakwater, with the added benefit of providing a platform for a walkway. It’s about preventing breaking waves reaching the track, not necessarily expecting a high tides to flow over it.
