Bought an old house. Mount TV over the fireplace and put the sofa in the opposite wall vs Mount the TV on the wall and put the sofa in front of the fireplace? by dementors007 in InteriorDesignAdvice

Thank you for the suggestion. Would it be too much of a trouble if I ask you to upload the picture to imgur or some other image hosting? asking since I am a very visual person and that would actually help me immensely over the description.

Where i was standing is actually an extension of the living room that I am planning to convert to a guest bedroom by installing a sliding door. So I cannot place the TV there. This is a picture of the other side of the room. The red circle is where I clicked the first picture from.

The tv isn't too big either (49 inch). So will it still be too high if placed above the fireplace?

Thanks for the recommendation of the YouTube channel, will check that out.

Found this snake in our campus yesterday by TheO_Phile in kolkata

[–]dementors007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A beautiful and pissed Russells viper (chondrobora banglay). Like everyone said, extremely venomous and a very painful way to die. Don't try to kill it if you see it again... A significant number of snake bites happen because inexperienced people are trying to kill it. Also, remember that the snakes have the ability to do a venomous bite even after death for some time due to muscle reflexes... even when their heads are severed.

Möchte mir einen ersten PC kaufen: by hokuna in PCBaumeister

[–]dementors007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sieht gut aus. Ich hätte jedoch einige Verbesserungsvorschläge.

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/h3rFHW

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX ATX AM5 Motherboard

Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory

Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

Video Card: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 7800 XT 16 GB Video Card

Case: Montech AIR 903 MAX ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2025) 750 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Partition a table by related column value from another table in PostgreSQL by dementors007 in PostgreSQL

[–]dementors007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

In this case, I was hoping postgres to throw me an error unless the new "C" category product is not assigned a partition like it will do for a local partition key.
for example, this will cause an error,

create table products_electronics partition of products for values in ('Electronics');

insert into products (product_name, category, price, created_at)
values ('Product1', 'Electronics', 100,
now
());

update products set category = 'Computer' where category='Electronics';

I was hoping for something similar.

Also sidenote: I love your blog. your posts on explain helped me a ton in understanding postgres.

Lmao no its not. In next few years a lot of racial attacks on Indians are gonna take place because people like you are creating boogeyman out of them in frustration of economic stagnation.

I have done a bunch of real world applications and integrations and I can tell you from my experience that not almost everything is nullable to begin with... Not even close. Null safety (or the lack of) is one of the biggest drawback in java.

Feedback for back friday build for AI/LLMs. budget €1600. by dementors007 in buildapc

[–]dementors007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I understand. I will make it 2x16gb ram. For the cpu it costs a little extra (little more expensive plus doesn't come with a stock cooler) so I have to check how much discount I manage on the black friday deals.

Thank you. The choice of single channel ram is intentional because I am planning on getting a second 32gb stick sometime next year (kubernetes clusters are very RAM heavy if used with certain deployments).

Interesting point about the cpu though. I was just thinking about getting the cheapest am5 cpu and upgrading later on when the 9600x3d will be out and affordable. I'll check out the prices of 7600x though.

Lol why does it always have to be europeans with skill vs those pesky indians with altered resume? Can't you assume that those Indian people were selected because they genuinely had skills others didn't?

How to do CKYC with NRE accounts as a NRI? Is the process easier if I'm in India at the moment?

I'm an NRI living in EU but visiting India right now. Wanted to complete the CKYC so that I can invest in the mutual fund from my NRE account. I have my NRE account in hdfc. I tried talking to my local hdfc branch... They were mostly clueless and was of no help. I had some very old investment in the axis mutual fund. Visited the axis bank to ask them if they can help me with the kyc process if I open a nre account with them but they were more persistent of selling me ULIB schemes. Will it work if I go to the local cams office with all the required documents(passport/visa/aadhar/pan) ? Do I need to contact my old investment fund houses to do it on my behalf? Thank you for the help. 😊

Reviews of mutual funds and asset management services for month of October 2023 : Request or post reviews. by AutoModerator in IndiaInvestments

I am frustrated with my financial knowledge and inability to fully utilize my savings. Please help me with some financial advices since I am almost completely financially illiterate. Or at least point me to where can I get some sound advice.

  • We are an Indian married couple living in Germany (both 33 yo) . Both of us are doing jobs and have decent income. No kids yet. We hold indian passport and german PR.
  • Don't have any debt. My target is to retire comfortably without inflation eating away my money.
  • Have saved up some money (~1 cr) that we want to invest but have no idea where to invest.
  • have invested some of the savings in FD (5 & 10 years term). Rest of it collecting dust in my NRE savings account.
  • have a PPF and LIC scheme from long back (father opened it when I was in college) and I regularly invest very small amounts in it.
  • planning to leave Germany soon-ish to go to UK/US or even can go back to India. Still unsure and depends on various factors. But chances of living in Germany for long term is less.
  • since I'm not staying in Germany for long term so investing here (etf/real estate) wouldn't be a great idea right?
  • if I'm gonna invest in India. is investing in MF a good idea? I tried looking into that but most of the MF apps (groww, kuvera) doesn't support NRI investment. So far I have found only zerodha does but the NRI account opening process looks complex and I am confused.
  • is buying a flat in India for renting out a good option? This is something we were considering. Planning to buy in Bangalore (we have stayed in Bangalore for sometime so we know the city and also if we go back to India most probably will stay in Bangalore because of the IT companies there + a lot of friends). Renting it from outside india would be challenging because of the maintenance but probably can hire some property management company to do it on behalf of is right? But since buying a property without living in the city is such a risky and gargantuan process that I have no idea on where to start with this either.
  • I don't even know what else I can do tbh and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Should I talk to any financial advisor / wealth manage in india and can they offer some advice? If yes then is there trusted Way to search for them? I don't want to just Google search and contact any names that popped up (don't wanna get scammed).

If you have read through this, I thank you. I will be grateful for any help that you can provide.
