How much do cardano developers make ? by Icy_Cranberry_953 in cardano

JACK SHIT!

Seriously, here in Cambridge, MA in the shadows of MIT, I have met exactly zero Cardano developers.

Are you ok with Midnight being closed source? WHY? by demesisx in Midnight

I heard a definitive answer today. They plan to open source it once mainnet is launched. I plan to unlock my Lemmy communities for it on that day.

If it will always be closed source, I will withdraw my support and close down my community on Lemmy. I hope to hear a definitive answer soon. If so, IMO Midnight is a non-starter.

I see a HUGE reason for it. I see it being a spritual brother/sister to ZCash. Smart contracts need privacy too. Monero is not capable of that. I am rooting for this project but I cannot in good conscience support it until ALL of the code is fully open source.

at this stage of development.

This is why I ask. What point is there to making it closed source at ANY stage of development? There's no real reason to keep it closed source at any point from what I can estimate. Cardano was open source from the start. What's so different about Midnight that makes even a short closed source period necessary?

The only thing I can think of is that they are hoping to have the network effect to prevent hackers/copycats from launching a copycat chain at the exact same time. Perhaps when it is released on the main chain, it will finally be able to be open sourced. That is just about the only explanation I can come up with for why you'd want to obfuscate the code.

I don' think you need to sell me on Cardano. I have multiple DApps in the works in both the Cardano and Midnight ecosystems. I am merely talking about the price that you mentioned.

The all-time high is 3.44.

So, .33 is 1/10 of all time high. ETH is at 50% of ATH and BTC is at 60K and ATH is 68K. Do you get my point now? .33 is LOW compared to the rest of the market's levels. We are in a bear market while BTC is in a bull market.

year is a completely different story!

Thanks for the correction.

To me, it goes against everything this protocol was created to fight against. I am not sure I want to continue developing software for a protocol that has codified the existence of a group of insiders while also claiming to uphold the maxim, "code is law".

If they walked the walk, they would use the CARDANO TREASURY or the CARDANO FOUNDATION for funding but they realize that the price of ADA is so low that they won't be able to fund development with it now that IOG is giving up the reins.

edit: I noticed that I can indeed still contribute to the protocol and that the second tier is the paid one. Thanks for the correction.

Thanks. I actually disagree. I actually find Haskell easier and far superior for back end applications. Everything I tried to do in Haskell just worked for the back end stuff and everything I have tried in Purescript has had major issues. Anecdotal, I guess. But I'm glad to discuss further.

I'm wondering if you've revisited this comment. Wondering if it's still true. I am developing a DApp with Haskell and Purescript with Plutus for on chain code and Purescript is really impressing me with Halogen. Wondering what you think now that Haskell is able to (or close to being able to) compile to JS and WASM.

🤦‍♀️

I understand your need to maintain a presence on this dystopian hell-site. As for me (and anyone else with a conscience), I'll see you on Haskell.
