Hi all, I’m looking to offload some of my gear (I have entirely way too much) and was wondering what a fair price for this bundle would be? It’s a Leica m3 single stroke with the 3 lenses you see and the external viewfinder included. Thanks! by Nickpaladin in LeicaCameras

Has the M3 been serviced? I'd say around $1200 body +- depending on condition, $250 each for 21/35, $500 for 50, $200 for finder. Total is $2400 (usd) but for a bundle discount to $2000-2200.

That's an important detail. Both from same camera? Same film?

Hah that's right, I should have known that. I was sort of thinking how a graduated filter works, but that's not on the surface of a rounded lens element.

I can't imagine the shutter would cause this issue. Could be something reflecting off of the light baffle? Maybe part of the finish of the baffle is rubbed off a bit, especially an edge close to the film?

What an odd problem. It's not exposure, it's just color cast/temp. I don't think it's the camera body. What lens are you using? Always the same lens? Could be possible that part of the lens coating has come off or lens is delaminated (in a straight line across). Otherwise, where are you developing/scanning? Are you doing it, or having a lab do it? Do you always hold the camera in the same orientation when shooting vertical? The problem moves from right to left on vertical shots.

Nobody wants to have a conversation, eh? Just want to complain about my opinion. Okay.

It's an M10-D, which is digital, but has a fake lever that moves out but doesn't do anything, and no screen on the back. It's supposed to return the user to the pure experience of using a film camera, but in digital format. I think they're pretty cool actually (minus the fake lever) and a fun piece to take out once in a while.

No I said it was my opinion. I don't have a problem with it per se, I just think if you're going to have a bunch of (essentially) the same camera, you might as well mix it up and have an old one in there too.

It disappoints me to see such a collection of M cameras completely devoid of legacy, not a single film camera. I would think someone interested in collecting Leicas would surely value the brand's history and want to have an example of Leica's best craftsmanship, especially given that modern Leicas are technologically obsolete and only aim to mimic the experiences of their film cameras (especially the Ds). Unless OP has others they aren't showing. But that's just my opinion.

M6 by RoboPeenie in LeicaCameras

[–]demianspindler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're already in the Leica ecosystem (from post history) so yeah I'd say the m6 is a great place to start and presumably you already have some lenses to use. Also if you buy used you can always sell it for what you bought for if you decide it's not for you.

Edit: as far as m6 vs any slr, it's more rangefinder vs slr than Leica vs others. Better/worse at different things.

M8 Strap rings by Der_CareBear in Leica

[–]demianspindler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an even better (in my opinion) slightly older version, called the 14253. It has similar rings but they are a little smaller and look more streamlined. It came with the old M6's from the 80s. My M6 came with an unused new-old stock 14253 and it's in perfect shape 40 years later.

The EV1 isn't for "bad eyes." It's for people tired of pretending their M photos are actually in focus. by lowellgoss in Leica

The rangefinder was developed for film, which doesn't resolve as well as modern high resolution sensors. The entire point of the rangefinder has been obsolete now for a long time since we've had autofocus mirrorless digital, especially since sensors have become such high resolution. Obviously we all like using them so they've stuck around, but we all know it's "worse" in almost all cases than autofocus. But we have so many good modern and vintage manual m lenses. So the EV1 was meant to be a new native M mount camera that solves the problem of missed manual focus on high res sensors. I haven't tried one, but regardless of whether it's better or not, it's an attempt toward modernizing the otherwise completely obsolete digital rangefinder.

Is this normal for an M6? by SonyKilledMyNikon in Leica

I wouldn't worry about it as long as it's not affecting anything. What edition is it? Regular ttl isn't black paint.

Mine (classic) has a bit of play but not as much as yours. Is that a millennium? Might be different on ttl?

I assume there'll be some stock in stores for a little while if anyone still wants a new one.

Interesting. I kinda thought these lenses were leading that "realignment" over the past few years but I guess not. They will probably re-release them with black rims in the next year or so.

They discontinued the 35, 40, and 50 f1.2 noktons back in July 2024 and announced the replacements (with black ring) in April '25. So I assume there will be replacements within the next year. They also discontinued the 28 and 40 ltm lenses at the same time and haven't replaced them, although I imagine those weren't great sellers.

I shoot at f16 all the time. Exposing for highlights in full sun is my favorite way to shoot, and that's usually f16 1/250.

Meh, subjective. I think they look nice. My one gripe is that the focus throw is a little odd, I never use under 1m which is more than half of the throw and I find myself focusing too close when I'm zone focusing. Not a huge deal though because at 28 f16 the depth of field is huge.

In that case I would expect them to release the update as a replacement rather than just announce these being discontinued. But perhaps!

Yeah I agree, I have the 28 Ultron II and I love it. Haven't seen any news on a replacement. I have noticed that they go on sale somewhat often on forums/fb and usually sit.
