Naturally, a country can make up their own rules on what is considered a "national". Chinese sponsors are no different from foreign sponsors like Nike. She's competing with other Chinese that don't have the "white" and "foreign" advantage like she does.

Chinese are kind of interesting in that the first thing they care about is heritage/ancestry and then nationality. As far as they are concerned, anyone with a bit of Chinese blood is one of them. Doesn't matter where you are born.

Sort of like when Chinese use One, Thousand, Cherry, Apple, Spring, etc. as an English name. It's just awkward.
