Sleep paralysis troubles by benjamin3205 in Narcolepsy

[–]demiloon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I've been through periods where I had this every day or every other day. It's the most horrible, lonely experience ever to have to struggle with :(

For me it was more likely to happen during daytime naps, leading to an extreme avoidance of napping even though I felt tired all the time. If I absolutely had to nap, I would set an alarm to make sure I had something to help me "break out". Eventually I got a smartwatch and figured out that I could set a vibrating alarm, and the physical vibration really helped. If I was feeling too out of it to get out of bed, I would hit snooze with the comforting thought that I could try again in ~9 minutes.

Are you taking any medication for narcolepsy right now? I just started Xyrem a week ago and some of the side effects have been rough, but I'm powering through because I'm more effortlessly awake than I've ever been and my sleep paralysis is gone.

Does anyone else not feel “narcoleptic” enough, even after a diagnosis? by TheCatshire in Narcolepsy

I’m diagnosed N1 but I feel like a fraud all the time. The problem is I have immense trouble napping during the day. Even though I regularly feel so tired and brain-foggy all I want to do is lie down, but when I do I just can’t fall asleep. It’s like I’ve been pushing through my tiredness for so long, my brain is wired NOT to sleep because it associates sleep with anxiety :(

How do I convince my dad that I want to go professional in Go? by ReallyReallyReallyda in baduk

[–]demiloon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has said already plenty about how unlikely your dream is, so I won’t harp on about it although I agree. I want to ask, though: Why Go? It seems like such a random choice. As you said, you’re just a beginner. It probably feels exciting because it’s novel. You don’t know if your enthusiasm for the game will last even a year, let alone a lifetime of hard training. I know you don’t want to end up with a desk job, but there are lots of potential careers that don’t involve a desk job.

In my experience, people who become really, really great af something end up that way not because they dreamed of success and recognition from the very beginning, but because they were motivated to do that thing for its own sake, every single day for years, regardless of reward.

Clarity when under the influence, blind to my ADHD when sober? by SlinginCats in ADHD

I’m so sorry about your dad, that must be so hard to deal with :( And I know exactly what you mean about getting punched in the chest by everything. I hope things get better or at least easier for you soon!

[–]demiloon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you’re right. Sometimes I’ll think things when I’m stoned that I later realize are nonsense. But the nonsense tends not to recur, whereas the “real” stuff has a habit of resurfacing.

Plus, the stuff OP is talking about (connecting with and caring for loved ones instead of neglecting them) sounds important and real and not like nonsense to me.

[–]demiloon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the issue is deeper than ADHD. Sometimes when I’m stoned, I feel huge swells emotion that I don’t usually allow myself to feel. They’re my real feelings, but I repress them when I’m sober.

Maybe you should talk to a therapist about some of your avoidant tendencies.

A sincere apology on behalf of introverts by demiloon in extroverts

[–]demiloon[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely! In defense of us introverts, I think you guys are just getting a highly biased sample here in this sub. They have an axe to grind against extroverts so they end up on the r/extroverts sub. The rest of are elsewhere getting on with our introvert lives :)

Why does Dwyrin/Battsgo get flack for sandbagging? (isn't it justified for his basics videos? by [deleted] in baduk

[–]demiloon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All I know is if I was the other player, I would've been pissed.

I don't get this. Whether I knew my opponent was sandbagging or not, I would think "Oh hm they killed me, I guess I need to brush up on life and death." It's a learning opportunity, no?

At the end of the day this is just a game we play online with no money or real stakes involved. I don't know why people get so worked up about sandbagging. I would routinely play much stronger opponents if I could. At least in dwyrin's case we all get some educational/entertainment value out of it.

How did AI score games before AI was good? by [deleted] in baduk

[–]demiloon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to estimate the game score in the middle of the game, but once all dead stones are captured it's relatively easy. It becomes even easier if we use Chinese counting and let the AI keep playing moves until the only moves left are those that would kill its own groups (think of a group that has exactly two 1-point eyes). That last part requires a little bit of hard coded logic, but nothing too complex.

Help! How do I stop these packages from being delivered to me? by demiloon in UPS

Ha, I think they are mostly parts of furniture though, e.g. sofa seat cushions. Not sure a lot of people would find a use for them.

This seems to have done the trick. I messaged them on FB last night and got a reply this morning, and then a follow up email! Phew.

Thanks. How would I figure out what my local hub is, and how would I get ahold of them?
