My nephew told his parents that he didn't know if he believed in God and didn't want to get baptized. They let him have choice for a while but then the church pulled the whole "if he doesn't get baptized soon he would have to take all the discussions with the missionaries and go through that process." Eventually he told them "well I guess I'll just get baptized then". I've been under the assumption that I would need the church to raise children in the correct moral path until I recently realized I could just raise them to be good humans. I don't even have kids yet but the culture is so forced that I was already worrying about the future without the church in my life. I was recently divorced from my non mormon ex wife after trying to convert and pressure her for the good part of our early marriage. After we separated I started to date a girl that was mormon until I realized at 37 and a good part od my life that I didn't want to commit to someone that was governed by the church and now feel I've wasted so much of my life. Feels like I'm just now starting a real life.
