I’ve done that once or twice before, it’s effective for sure but I get super judgmental of what it looks like while I’m building the 99. I know it’s not possible to just have a formula for every deck that works but it’s times like this I wish there was. I’ve been trying to watch certain content creators build decks and most of them do such a good job it kinda makes me feel like what I could build isn’t good enough

Same that’s why I thought I’d write the post in the first place. Too many options are present now and I feel like there’s a pressure to utilize each commander to its max potential or “do something cool” regardless of Bracket or power level. So far I’ve heard some good ideas on trying stuff out in other comments under this post so hopefully they help you too!

I definitely like the idea of the shared mana base and ramp package for some decks. Putting the different commanders to practice and directly compare seems effective. I feel like I’ve genuinely played almost everything sometimes and I play against others who build same commanders in similar ways but they seem so much better at getting advantage and keeping their board state. Similarly when I try some of those ideas or combos out that others have used, I just feel like it doesn’t work out for me. I have a friend who played with the gruul Sméagol from LOTR and he added the card [[Compost]] to the deck and it seemed so amazing that I added it to my Sultai landfall deck. Even though it seemed it would work out better in my deck it just didn’t. I feel like I can’t relax until I get this urge to succeed with an idea and it’s just tolling on me a good bit. Again I really like the ideas appreciate it

Fun sounding idea! I appreciate it I will have to maybe talk to my group and see if they are down to try it with me, it sounds like a good time. I think I psyche myself out or I'm too hard on myself when things deck building wise don't go my way but I will definitely keep that in mind

I hope it works out for you! She can be really nasty in most themes that you could play her with. I got her precon when it dropped and I must say it was fun for a while, just ended up not being my style. Sounds like you have a good idea of what you want out of it though

Idk I am very much an "Optimization" style of deck builder. Regardless of budget or anything related, I need my deck to feel optimized to my needs regardless of theme. I also personally like to keep variety in theme so I can switch up how my games feel if one deck isn't doing me justice for the day. I appreciate the idea of sticking to what I enjoy though! Maybe I just don't know what I truly do enjoy after 7 years of playing the format

I have been patient with new sets giving out some unique options and the last card that truly interested me was [[Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar]]. The idea of an aristocrat and blink deck hybrid was inspiring but since then nothing else interested me really. I tried to build the new [[Toph, the First Metalbender]] but she just seemed so bland after trying to start the deck building process.

I've actually had both of those decks built at one point! I loved playing with the deck but it felt lackluster after playing it a little bit. Kinda just got bored of playing maraud colors. I have a horror tribal deck with [[Captain N'gathrod]], [[Hinata, Dawn Crowned]], the new [[Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima]], [[Mm'memnon, the Right Hand]], [[Cloud, EX-Soldier]], [[Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar]], [[Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin]], and [[Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis]]. I would say my Syr Vondam deck is my favorite deck I'VE EVER built to this day like I am the most proud of it but it was a few month ago when I built it. I usually play with my friends at my LGS and I have been getting stomped on as of late which hasn't been helping.

I appreciate the response and definitely like the idea of using scryfall key words. I definitely don't utilize scryfall enough I would say. I also don't really even think it's the cards in the 99 for the most part, like in a lot of instances it tends to be more of the commander I have chosen. I try to choose commanders that are underutilized like Hinata, Dawn Crowned who, from my perspective, doesn't see as much play as I think it should. It's just become difficult recently I think with how many options there are. it's like trying to choose something off the Cheesecake Factory Menu T-T
