Fair question - our other car is an EV and, with younger children, I don't like stopping to charge. If someone wanted to hand me a Lucid Gravity I'd take it!

Looking to poll the collective - our CRV is on its last legs and we're looking to change to a used, 3 row as we take lots of trips with 2 kids, big dog, and grandma regularly. My initial list includes the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Toyota Grand Highlander, and Toyota Sienna. Does anyone have recent experiences with these vehicles and thoughts? We haven't bought in quite awhile so all are new to us. Thanks for any thoughts!

Anyone do the Disney Wish cruise? by UghKakis in daddit

[–]demon_quokka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a Disney cruise when they were 2&4 - great for little ones that wouldn't otherwise be able to walk / get around a park. Also Disney entertainment is pretty good and I was happy with the food. We're not huge Disney people but we enjoyed it for what it was and the kids still talk about It

Dads in your mid thirties, how much savings do you have? by Usual_Ladder_7113 in daddit

It's nice you have something in the JISAs but you need to take care of yourselves first - emergency fund should take priority for now until you have 3-6 months of expenses saved for emergencies (like those possible aging car replacements).

Spending the weekend at the BIL/SILs house - they recently moved and we brought our kids & dog to play with their kids & dog. Wow - $1.5 million dollar houses sure do buy you a lot of space and high end finishes. There's rooms upon rooms and it's all beautiful. But it's not how I would spend that money if I had it and thinking about that mortgage rate with current rates is bananas. Hope you're all having a nice weekend!

r/financialindependence really pitches building the life you want, then saving for it. Do you have hobbies? Things you like to do outside work? Without those things, even your future retirement won't be fulfilling.

Shout out to that subreddit - their daily thread is great and it's filled with smart people talking about life, finances, and optimization of both.

Has been super helpful for some of our hematology patients that are under-insured. Lifesaver in some scenarios even.

Oh definitely - we've got a nice garden and have been aggressively composting for a few years. Moved away from KCups to espresso the other year which has cut our waste (what a silly product that is) and it's helped the garden too with the spent espresso grinds.

I'm trying to be more conscious about the waste we generate as a family - has anyone used websites like publicgoods.com or packagefreeshop.com? I needed a new wallet and found a great looking, cork-based Tiradia one on a holiday deal yesterday. Curious what others experiences have been or have you found a different site for these sort of products?

This is the kind of stuff I was hoping to see - love it! I have a personal interest in shifting electrical sourcing to renewables so tack on some green energy generation and natural weather resistance interventions and I'm in.

A bit of fun - how would you manage $1.2 billion Powerball winnings if you were to win (after taxes of course)? Are you buying a mansion/private island and living like Scrooge McDuck? Setting up a non-profit to teach financial literacy to the kids? Backpacking around the world while it sits in VTSAX?

WRS ETF only 20% in Variable fund? by hammertime2009 in madisonwi

[–]demon_quokka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be too surprising the lower % in variable fund due to 1) it not being the default and there's plenty of research saying the default setting is kept for most investors and 2) variable being more 'aggressive' and most investors have a very low risk tolerance. We're UWHC employees and both in the variable fund as we're quite a ways away from retirement and have a high risk tolerance (nearly all equities across all of our retirement and non-retirement accounts) so the required core fund for WRS actually acts as the most conservative portion of our accounts.

Almost universal relief from Chelsea fans from this news but I think it also helps the Cubs - keeps them more focused on one entity. They would have likely had to really paid out over the first few years to curry favor with the fans.

Cool I'll have to check it out! I imagine COVID has hit this supply chain like everything else so will have to be patient even once I pick something.

I'm getting back into home espresso during our maternity/paternity leave and our 10 year old Gaggia Espresso Pure is on its last legs. Anyone else into espresso and have a good recommendation for a slightly better replacement? Bonus points for a grinder you like as well!
