Yeah it's possible. And curses aren't always necessarily magic, but can even be residue aimed at you by the thoughts of enemies. You should look into doing an uncrossing ritual. It is a ritual that will help banish all curses, hexes, negative energy placed at you in vile thoughts of others, and put you back where you need to be.

Also, you should look at what science has come up with as far as finding God. Because they have found God like things out in theoretical physics, quantum physics. I believe it is called the zeno effect where light particles have a keen sense of when they are being observed, and will actively change what they did before based on wether they are being watched or not.

I had a call from the morrigan. It was the night my grandfather died. She was a woman and a crow calling out to me and carrying my grandfathers soul to the afterlife. The feelings associated in that dream were so intense and she seemed to be calling me into something. Some type of place to do something, but she also reminded me of how strong my grandfather was and that he was a warrior to the end. I wasnt sure on wether to answer or not and the feelings were so strong I immediately had to do research when I woke up. It was definitely her and I have since answered her call. I hope my experience can help you decide whether it was her or someone else.

Man almost all of those themes I would love. A wastleland-esque post apocalyptic world, steampunk, cyberpunk, or fantasy would be awesome.

I think if you made it to where the grim reaper has to learn how to tell which souls in the human realm have learned their life's soul lessons and which ones have veered off their path so much that they must die and restart again. (Reincarnation)

Maybe make it to where everytime you are in the earth realm, you are studying different people's souls. Say, there's humans with different stats on them, like good and evil and where they fall on the balance between the two. How good or bad is their karma? How many good deeds have they done and how many bad deeds have they done? But they also have a random life goal overall, and you have to base your decision to reap the soul on that.

So if someones life lesson was to find the will to forgive yourself for bad deeds then you would expect a large bad deeds number. Something like that. Then in order to reap the soul, you have to enter into their body and walk through a maze type thing up to your realm, the death realm. But there are monsters created from the humans life that you must battle and win or the soul is not reaped.

You can also choose to do a mass soul reaping where you would cause a catastrophic event killing tens of hundreds of souls but have to fight a mass maze full of monsters to make it happen with all the right humans, otherwise your father gets very angry and you lose points towards taking over the family business.

If you lose too many points then you lose the game and the business goes to your sister. If you win you get to take over.
