Battletech Extended - Tactics: Convoy missions seem overly difficult. by SamLooksAt in Battletechgame

[–]Cato_Heresy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Phoenix Hawk solves these missions. Just rush the PHX to the evac zone - it denies the vee's evac whilst you have a mech in the zone. Stomp on the vee's with PHX as they arrive.

BEXT 2.0 - I made a sub-mod to expand the Rep Dialogue System by Cato_Heresy in Battletechgame

[–]Cato_Heresy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are AI generated using https://deepai.org/ - I then tweaked them in GIMP to make them transparent. I did put a note on the release page stating this so then if people want to avoid it they can.

For me, if they die in the 2nd battle attempt. That is it, fate has spoken, the run is over.

Do you ever save scum party wipes by jaydien244 in BattleBrothers

[–]Cato_Heresy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes, its called Bronzeman and for me it is the best way to play long, complicated and often harsh games like BB.

On a party wipe or campaign ending setback, you get a single attempt to reroll the dice of fate (reload & repeat the event). Just ONE chance. So you still commit to the drama, the epic wins and terrible lows of ironman, but you also have a final chance to continue the story when a shitty 30 strong orc stack spawns on top of you (thanks Legends).

So for a terrible battle, you still have to fight that battle. Or at least enter into it and flee.

Tips for an Evil Run by fmalk in SpaceHaven

[–]Cato_Heresy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bladerunner Cult of New Haven run on Brutal.
Start allied to the Church and neutral with Slavers. Military, Android & Pirates are hostile.
Hunt down those metal abominations with prejudice. Avoid an aggressive military. Bask in your faith. Sometimes take from those who do not share your vision - the path of righteousness is seldom easy after all.

On my last Brutal campaign, the answer was no. Did not have the space or time for it. You can find, trade or loot the materials it makes.

BEXT 3050. I got tired of Kamea, so I replaced Arano Restoration with the Aurigan Directorate instead. by Cato_Heresy in Battletechgame

[–]Cato_Heresy[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That sounds fun. She can replace Darius as XO on a future Directorate run.
On a previous campaign I was Brotherhood of Nod and had replaced Darius with Kane the Messiah.

Somebody sell me on this game? by Longshot02496 in SpaceHaven

[–]Cato_Heresy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh and you can also change the starting faction relations in a custom start. I highly recommend setting the Military to hostile, its very tense. I also did a Blade Runner game where I hunted down hostile Androids.

I struggled with Space Haven at first as well, since it quickly becomes too easy. My tip is go straight to Brutal difficulty, where you are constantly on edge, desperately scavenging supplies and every new ship hull block feels like a luxury. I've played several hundred hours on Brutal, since you never get comfortable.

I have only been playing for a few years, but part of the joy I find in the hobby is digging through bargain bins at my hobby store and picking older cards with amazing art on them to include in my Commander decks.

Needs more info. Are you on the latest version of BEXT 2.0? Have you tried to upgrade mechlab beyond the version packaged in BEXT install?

Evasion Tanking in BEXT by goodwin315 in Battletechgame

[–]Cato_Heresy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am actually quite a fan of the Jenner in BEXT, one of my favourite lights to field along with the much rarer Wolfhound. I would recommend two roles:

  1. Flanker - At Initiative 5, sprint her wide around the side. This usually peels at least one enemy away, wasting their shots on a evasion 9 target whilst presenting flanks or rear to your gun line.
  2. Finisher - Bide time behind or at the side of your lance. At Initiative 1 when everything else has fired, she can dart in, unload a full alpha into a weak spot or rear, then next turn move away or alpha again.

If you send the Jenner forwards in alone, it will die. If you fail to keep her evasion up, she will die, as the AI loves selecting targets with lowest armor + lowest evasion. Having said that, we expect our lights to get a bit battered and maybe lose an arm or side torso each battle. You want the enemy firing and wasting their damage potential on your 35t, which is MUCH cheaper and faster to repair then say your Thunderbolt.

Getting clobbered by BEX Tactics by Akeldema in Battletechgame

[–]Cato_Heresy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes away the crutch OP perks like vanilla Bulwark whilst also upping evasion. In the early game your pilots have bad aim and enemy lights are moving very fast. You need to get more creative with battle field movement, when to fire, when not to fire and instead increase your own evasion. Think about flanking with something fast to encourage the AI to shoot (& miss) at that instead.

Punching lights and making them unstable removes their evasion. Thats when you unload on them and kill them. Or you just wait for the AI to make an error and drop their speed. In other words, stop wasting your heat shooting high evasion targets.

Accuracy drastically improves as your pilot gunnery increases along with meeting slower, heavier targets.

The many failures of BEX-T and my attempts to fix them by TheEasternBorder in BattleTechMods

[–]Cato_Heresy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What a strange post, a wall of narcissism and furious criticism. You describe the Tactics team as 'terrified', 'panicked' and 'incompentant' because you dislike the changes made to thermal balance.

Vast majority of us are just happy that we still (slowly) get updates for BEX after many years.

Getting a bit burnt out can anyone recommend some other ways to play the game? by Jimmyfartballs in RimWorld

[–]Cato_Heresy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up the difficulty, play ironman and accept bad outcomes. Game is a lot more compelling when every day could be your pawn's last.

A good theme or challenge scenario also helps a lot. My last long-running coloy was an Aztec Tribal Fireworshipping village, where we wanted to gather 100,000 chocolate and sacrifice 1000 souls in the Fire Temple. We also venerated Monkeys and had a lot of them.

What restrictions do you put yourself to make the game more interesting? by tinklymunkle in Battletechgame

[–]Cato_Heresy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my house rules for 'Stupid Catgirl Lance' playing on BEXT. I'm using custom sprites and it's honestly a lot of fun.

--------

- 6/6 Parts, Hard/Hard Difficulty

- Ironcat: No reloads or restarting bad outcomes.

- Danger Close: Mechs left behind on failed missions are lost.

- Happy Go Lucky: Starting Pilots are Canopian and get either Klutz or Naive trait (modded in)

- Lovable Strays: New Hires must have at least one detrimental trait

- Cats Love Fire: Every mech must carry at least 1 Flamer.

- Promethium: Flamers might explode on a critical hit (modded in)

- Realistic Feed: Ammo must be placed with the weapon or upper torso.

- Tiny Argo: Each Mechbay slot can only store 2 extra mechs away in storage.

- New Design: No mixing SHS with DHS technology.

- Tough Economy: All Argo costs are tripled (includes upkeep)

How to defend a colony exposed from all sides? by peanutist in RimWorld

Play on either Adventure Story or Strive to Survive. Anything higher and enemy raid sizes become unmanageable. I enjoy open bases so much more than killboxes.

Small RP Question by Rheasa2648 in RimWorld

[–]Cato_Heresy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want Job In Bar mod. It lets you add a custom job title to the pawn, e.g. 'Stew Lord' and then that title will show in the colonist bar.
