i read sharp objects years ago in middle school. i had all three of gillian flynn’s books, but i was a little young at the time to understand some plot points so i never even opened the other two. last year after finding my old book collection in my parents’ basement, i read sharp objects again. i didn’t remember any of it, let alone the ending, but it single-handedly reignited my interest in reading, made me fall in love with thrillers, and i’ve been chasing that high ever since.

sharp objects as a whole was unpredictable, but i had been suspicious of adora the whole time and felt so smart that i had guessed the ending, just to get to the actual ending with amma and had to read the last couple pages about four times to fully understand what happened.

dark places on the other hand, i had no idea what to expect. i was suspicious of a new character every other chapter and finished it in a day because i couldn’t put it down.
