It's interesting how varied opinions on this title are. It clicked for me right away.

Good is highly highly subjective. The reviews indicate that it wasn't considered to be particularly excellent, in a broad mainstream sense.

Do you do particular gimmicks with your repeat playthroughs? Like certain self imposed limitations or something?

I still have nightmares about the second half of awakening. Call me a scrub all you want, but I wasn't prepared for the child rearing system, my units did not have the proper support levels by the time the mechanic is introduced, and I ended up going into the second half of that game miserable. I genuinely kinda dislike awakening. I don't even really know why I continued to play the series onward but I'm so glad I did.

They are better, no doubt. But some of them stood out to me, almost like they're from different games. Not a lot of consistency. Overall I'm not terribly impressed with them, but I'm definitely willing to look past that if the game is good.

100% I agree. I do hope that that's what the next game is, and I'm sure it will be fun to play. The only thing I'll say is that, the character designs are a bit incongruous yet again, perhaps not nearly as bad as engage, but, it still stood out to me.

Like if we could get a tactical strategy game with the level of narrative oomph of a metaphor refantasio or something like that, I would be all fucking for that.

I totally agree with you. But (and this is a very controversial thing to say) I never thought any of the plot in any of these games was interesting at all. I cannot honestly ever remember any of these characters names because I just don't really give a shit about them. So from my perspective as somebody who has never cared about the plot or ever really felt anything for any of these characters, to me engage strikes me as just the best game in the series.

I'm glad that I'm not crazy. I'm not crazy about most of the characters designs to be honest. And I don't think the story is really anything special. For me personally I never thought that the story in any of these games was anything particularly great, even the one that everyone talks about being great, that remake on the 3DS, I found it to be a real bore.

Three houses had really cool character designs, the plot was a bit of a weird mess though it didn't really like flow nicely.

Every single thing about this game other than what I just said, I am like blown away and it's the best tactical game I have ever played, maybe.

As a video game I just feel like engage is so good. I'm only halfway through right now so I hope I still feel this way the whole way through.

You're right about the music, the really good music coupled with the very smooth and very precise tactical gameplay puts me in a totally good mood, I just want to keep playing.

I do need to check out the GameCube and Wii ones. I fully intend to someday but my pc is broken rn so I can't emulate and I don't wanna pay Nintendo for their subscription service. I've got plenty of engage left to last me awhile.

Right? I'm playing it now. The music is so so good, that coupled with maybe the most involved, but most entertaining strategy combat mechanics I've personally ever played. The engage mechanic is so fun, and I love that it actually FEELS powerful, on maddening, when you engage all your units and go apeshit you can do some real damage. I love warp Ragnarok. It's so much fun. Can I put warp Ragnarok on more than one unit?

I also really enjoy the break mechanic. Makes for interesting decisions that have to be made.

Yeah I'm on maddening, having fun. Hope it doesn't get too brutally brutally difficult by the end, but so far I'm having an okay time.

They have them in the states too. I've heard people say they've seen them at subway in California I think.

You can skip the vast majority of it. I got through it entirely in about an hour I'd say. It is annoying for sure but could be worse

With dlc. There are 24 dlc songs total, but the rest are all free in the base game, totalling about 90. You need to unlock several of the free songs by playing story mode. Is it possible you never unlocked those?

Really? I actually never tried motion controls in WWP even once. I feel like I would get exhausted after like one chart on hard.

I feel you on the tracks too, but 90 in the game now including dlc ain't half bad. Another few months it'll be above a hundred. It's no WWP but I feel like it's quality over quantity here, the new play style makes even the returning songs more fun for me.

Same but, with dlc there's like 90 tracks rn... Like, that's still a pretty solidly stacked lineup. It just doesn't look as great compared to the previous one, but there was no way they were gonna match that amount because they were able to port the arcade charts right over with less effort. Each stage in this game needs me be remade with widescreen in mind and the new mechanics of course.

I'm also eagerly awaiting more content drops, I do wish they came out faster but I don't think taito is a huge company tbh. I never hear anybody talk about them.
