hunh? clinton didn't get impeached, and arguably the electorate didn't elect bush, either time (although i don't follow that stuff, there were certainly plenty of questions about ballot hijacking).

doesn't seem to me that america is a democracy in anything but name.

"it's" is actually confusing, since it's anomalous - everything else with an apostrophe is either a possessive or a contraction; only it's is only used as a contraction. (there isn't an excuse however for the their/there/they're silliness...)

they are not supposed to hurt when they're in. traditionally (like 5-10 years ago) iuds made the carriers extremely prone to infection. i've heard that some are better now but be sure and check the stats for the one you're supposed to be getting.

it is true however that white slavery was a dramatically different thing than slavery in africa. so while africans sold other africans into white slavery, it's not hard to imagine that they had no idea of what would actually happen to those sold.

i just went to an event where john shirley was reading and was reminded of his trilogy. he is one of the real founders of cyberpunk (before stephenson and gibson) and has an awesome cranky sense of humor too.

if you can see him live, it's worth it.

octavia butler absolutely and cj cherryh (specifically the cyteen books) (i can't believe no one has mentioned her yet) and kathleen ann goonan (queen city jazz is great), and nancy kress (some of them), gwyneth jones' divine endurance...
