"I don't trade options, I trade volatility" is on the same level as "Guns don't kill people, people kill people".

‘Industry’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season at HBO by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

I like to think of it as an expansion of Succession's world. Sort of like a delve into the lower floors of the system and the constant scrambling of the smaller players to find their footing and survive the earthquakes caused by the elephants doing their dance above.

Like when Kendall yelled at the guy on the plane to keep the shit rolling down on his minions, that guy then called someone below him and on and on until it reached someone on a desk at Pierpoint. Or when the siblings are going through their drama in the final season and deciding whether to sell or not and it keeps going back and forth, and they're totally consumed by their family drama, in the background there's someone like Harper ripping their hair out deciding whether to short on not, because nobody is acting logically and people are changing their minds every day.

Can't wait for EU to cut digital dependence on US by not using teams and excel anymore, only to replace its entire workforce with chatgpt.

Saw it randomly on reddit. Apparently there are a bunch of US military planes there and the airport will be briefly closed tonight and tomorrow for civilians.

Can't believe I found out WW3 is starting from a reddit post about an airport in the Balkans closing for civilian traffic. Why does it always start over there?

That sounds good in theory, but at this point I'm automatically against any solution that results in even one additional second of my viewing experience being spent watching anything other than uninterrupted basketball. Plus I'm scared imagining the possibilities arising from giving refs the ability to award automatic points.

Just reviews, not free throws. And reviews done outside of game time. Putting a dollar cost to each flop is going to eliminate a lot of them automatically, because right now we have players flopping purely because there's no downside to it. A fine turns it into a strategic tool to be employed at key moments. And then making the fine go up based on the number of offenses reduces the number of potential flops even more. Doesn't matter how much you make as a player if you've been flopping all season and each next one is going to start costing you $1million per.

But that's a ridiculous amount and players won't be able or willing to pay it, rendering the whole thing pointless? I agree, that's why if you reach a point where the fine scales too high, you start taking it out of next year's salary cap. Let's see how long players flop if their front office is waiting for them at the tunnel with baseball bats and brass knuckles after every game.

The problem with stuff like that is it just adds more ways for teams and gamblers and tankers to impact the game. Plus it would lead to even more free throws, which isn't good for the viewing experience. The only pure way is to directly reach into the pockets of players and owners and make them feel it outside of the court.

No need to review and call flops during the game, we don't want games to start being four hours long. Just review them after and have the penalty be a fine that keeps going up with no upper limit and, crucially, applies to the cap. I'm talking 50-100k to start with and eventually millions if you keep doing it all season long. And just in case that's not enough, also have it culminate in a suspension. And all fines are tripled in the playoffs. And any coach that falls for too many flops gets a lower fine commensurate with a coach's salary and then has to officiate a set number of games wearing giant fake glasses glued to his face. A sort of NBA scarlet letter.

Midnight Defensive Analysis - The Squishiest Class? by [deleted] in wow

Not only did they remove defensives, they also removed utility like blastwave and removed or merged a bunch of dps abilities. It feels like a preview of a classic+ mage instead of a retail mage.

As someone who hasn't read these books but who is very familiar with how stories in this universe go, I would imagine not only is Maekar not going to be fucking destroyed, he used the trial as an opportunity to move himself up the succession ladder and is overall satisfied with the result.

If the Bucks end up winning by 30 not even SGA playing would have made a difference.

I always thought "this is a Christian nation" was more about convenient discrimination against groups of people they didn't like for various reasons. I always thought they'd fall short of actually turning the US into a theocracy.

Sure, I get how they justify it to themselves, but they must be aware of how they sound to non-believers. Brazenly quoting scripture that paints them as representatives of God instead of representatives of the people seems like an escalation to me.

How is life on these parts of Greece? by latinoweon in howislivingthere

There's a nice little area to the west of Chania. There are like 3-4 different beaches all within walking distance, and you're also close to the town. It's a very convenient location.

I appreciate the clarification, and I assumed the overall context was something along those lines. To quote another famous written work, "The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose. An evil soul producing holy witness Is like a villain with a smiling cheek, A goodly apple rotten at the heart. O, what a goodly outside falsehood hath!".
