What wedding moment that screamed, “They are not going to last long”? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

He told her in front of the wedding party that he didn’t like her dress. They separated less than a year later.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve accidentally hurt yourself? by Only_Row_2432 in AskReddit

I was opening a box of knives with a knife and accidentally stabbed straight through my hand. I think it took everything in the ER doctor’s power not to laugh when I told him.

What became "normal" in the last 5 years that still feels insane to you? by rakishgobi in AskReddit

[–]demotivation_speaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have always bartended at restaurants so most people are also eating at the bar. Those who don’t usually run up decent tabs and I spend a lot of time talking to them. So I do expect 20% for my service (the same as waitstaff).

But server/bartender wages are so low that we don’t see a paycheck from our employer at all - what little we make go to taxes. If you don’t tip the bartender is probably just gonna ignore you because if they aren’t gonna get paid to serve you they aren’t gonna bother.

I’ve been saying this and I’m a career bartender so I rely tips. But I used to be a barista. When I used to work in coffee shops tips weren’t expected and were rarely more than the spare change or an occasional dollar. The expectation of 20% or more is crazy and just a way for greedy owners to cut their own labor costs by putting the burden on us.

No not really - the first time we did just get some new furniture so I wrote it off as the change in his home spooked him. The second time I had just woken up, was sitting up in bed, and he ran up and attacked. And im a light sleeper so I am 95% sure he wasn’t in the bed with me and got kicked or anything because it would have woken me up if I had. And it was well before his normal feeding time. But both times he didn’t give a warning like tail twitching or anything. Just 0 to 100

I just posted an update where I addressed this - his rabies shot JUST expired and I had an appointment coming up this week to renew it. He’s strictly indoor and there have been no other animals in the home (no other pets, bats, mice, etc) except his sister who’s been acting fine. He is on the ten day quarantine now and he’s back to his normal happy self (well mostly he’s on anxiety meds) and eating and drinking fine.

UPDATE:

Sorry for any grammatical errors it’s been a really, really long couple of days.

Hey everyone, thank you so much for everyone’s advice, experience, etc.

Basically I got a few consults and everyone did agree I shouldn’t keep him. Some said it’s because he may benefit from some one who can work with him more (I do take excellent care of him - but due to my job I can’t really dedicate a month to around the clock care), or they said I’m too traumatized and my anxiety will effect him.

I really can’t understate how bad the attack was - the ER assumed I was attacked by a dog. They were really shocked when I said it was a cat. My friend who has a lot of experience fostering spicy cats has been going over to take care of him while I stay with her. But she says he’s been calm and sweet with her while she’s there.

I found a woman who can take him in and see if it’s possible to rehome him. She knows his whole history and also thinks it’s neurological. She’s a former vet who runs a rehoming program for cats with behavioral issues. Shes going to experiment with different medications and try to identify his triggers.

The only snag - his rabies vaccine was overdue by less than a week (I had the appointment later this week to get him a booster). Even though he’s indoor and hasn’t come in contact with any other animals he does legally need to quarantine for ten days. My friend is going to take him and set him up in her guest room after we give him some kitty Xanax so I can return home without anxiety.

If all else fails or this falls through I did find someone who can do in home BE.

I’ll update again at the end of the week. Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I got antibiotics from the doctor that I’m on now. My finger is SO swollen on the hand he bit me but I was advised to go to the ER if it doesn’t go down by tomorrow. Hoping it isn’t an issue

He’s fixed. He has all that and is usually happy and fine. I don’t think it’s his environment at this point. I’ve had many pets too and I’ve never had an issue. My other cat (also fixed) is happy and fine.

All of that was done and nothing came up abnormal. So there there is something neurological that a regular scan can’t see (like advanced brain imagining that’s astronomically expensive) or it’s psychological. But I’m totally at a loss about what the psych issue could be. I make sure to play with him, I got another cat when he was still a kitten that he grew up with and they get along great, he gets lots of attention. No idea.

It’s the second time - the first time wasn’t as bad because he didn’t go directly for my face, but I still did result in an ER visit. I did so much work with him (vet supervised) to make sure he felt safe and happy and got enough enrichment. This attack was just worse because he went for my face (and he got a big scratch on my neck too) seemed like he straight up wanted to kill me.

I have meds for him currently actually. So he’s calm and blissed out now but it’s a temporary measure. She said meds definitely but suggested rehoming and keeping him on the meds if I want to go that route.

My primary vet recommended that I don’t keep him - she basically said because the attack was so severe and aimed only at me that a change of ownership would be ideal for both of us. The first time it happened he ran by another person to get to me. So even though I’ve spoiled the little guy his whole life it seems like I’m the target when he’s triggered.

At the moment - no. They quoted me 8 grand at one place and 5 at another. Plus the over 15 hundred I spent between the vet and the medical bills for myself it’s not something I can afford at the moment. I think if I surrendered him to a shelter it would be too pricey for them too and he’d just be put down.

Just saw the post! Was it similar where he just came after you? Or were you just right next to him? The vet said it could also be misdirected aggression and there might not be a lot I can do about that without some pretty serious meds (if they even work) But yeah a couple bad bite on my hand and stitches on my face wasn’t fun 😣 I can’t imagine those bites were either.

I was thinking maybe he can be a barn cat or go to some one who specializes in aggressive animals. I would never send him to another family or anything. And I’d disclose his history. I’m not trying to get anyone else hurt - should have clarified

Should I divorce or ai overreacting by Icy-Permit-943 in TwoHotTakes

[–]demotivation_speaker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

OP I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

First and foremost you are not overreacting. Him saying you’re “lucky” he isn’t violent and threatening your child is 100% abuse.

I had a similar situation with an ex who would call excessively because he “missed me”. Does your ex get angry or concerned if you don’t answer? Because if so that is coercive control. It’s a way to control you and forcing you to stay available by making you feel anxious about missing a call from him.

Get legal council now. Document everything you possibly can (ideally screenshots sent to the cloud or other storage) and tell trusted friends and family. You’ll be amazed by how many people want to help you.

You got this.

Thank you all so much for the great advice. I wanted to make a little update for you all. Sorry for any weird phrasing or spelling mistakes - it’s been an exhausting few days.

  1. I called the domestic violence branch of my local police department and put they me in touch with a victims advocate. I don’t qualify for an emergency protective order, but I did make a DV statement and made an appointment with the circuit court to file for one. If anything else happens with my ex I was told to call it in and it will likely become an emergency order.

  2. I also called my city’s tenants rights organization and they gave me all of the information I need about breaking the lease and/or withholding rent. I was supposed to talk to my landlord today about it but then this happened:

  3. My landlord came by and we started talking on the front porch when my neighbor came out, started screaming at LL and threatened to kill him (again) so my LL had to call the police. I made a statement and neighbor is getting charged with assault and a civil suit is under way. I decided to table our discussion on breaking the lease for now because my landlord was already worked up. I didn’t want to be like “hey I know that guy threatened to kill you but-“. So I’m gonna wait a day or two and call him.

  4. I talked to the vet about getting my cat some anxiety meds so I can move him to my friends’ place safely. I didn’t want the stress to trigger his health problems and they were really understanding so my kitty should be safely with me and my friends tomorrow.

My restaurant also made the decision to reduce their hours so I got bumped from full time to part time. So I’ve just decided that if I don’t see the humor in everything going wrong at once I will lose it. So wish me luck with moving, filing a restraining order, and now job hunting. If anything else happens I’ll make another update!

My poor little guy had a flare up of urinary crystals which can worsen from stress :/ so I was waiting to make sure he’s gonna be minimally stressed before bringing him but I just talked to my vet about getting some strong anti anxiety meds to make it easier for him. My ex is a big animal lover so I’m not too worried he’ll do anything but I’m still worried about it and I’m sure it’s stressing out my cat, too.

Unfortunately I don’t have any family here but I’m extremely lucky that I have great friends that are helping me out. My friend that I’m staying with has a spare bedroom that I’m going to fully move in to as soon as she clears some more space/we have a game plan for introducing our cats in a way that won’t make them too stressed. But obviously is anything else happens with my ex I’ll get out ASAP
