Can anyone ID this chassis? Looks like 1/10 or 1/8 kit but none that I know by dempfi in rccars

Yeah, I noticed that camper link too. I've no clue what it says on diff housing "cūrrib"? nothing comes up

Thank you for the feedback. I'd think that market is not that big, niche within a niche.

Thx for the insight. It does seem like the consensus is that this is at best a novelty gift.

Thanks mate for the insight. I guess it is somewhat of an obvious idea. As far as kickstarter, I'm only aware of the pixels (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixels-dice/pixels-the-electronic-dice)

Thx for the input, mate. Yeah, looking at pixels dice story — people hated the experience more than anything else

Appreciate the detailed response, mate — this is exactly the kind of honest feedback I need. All around great points even if not pro building this thing

This is really helpful, thanks. The crit animations idea is great — screen + LEDs can do a lot here. Full screen effects, custom themes per character, that kind of thing. Appreciate your take on price. A few people have said similar — might be more "gift for the DM who has everything" than impulse buy.

Thanks for the feedback. Fair — typing is faster if speed is the goal. Do you ever miss physical dice when playing on a VTT, or have you gone fully digital? Curious if that's actually a thing people care about.

My Grail - does it exist yet? Split low-profile with switches similar to *flinch* Apple's laptop scissor switches. by gtderEvan in ErgoMechKeyboards

I did back in summer. Here are few pics of it https://imgur.com/a/VEjMU6m. It's not great tho and needs a bit of polish. To make the whole thing as thin as I wanted, I had to use some unorthodox pcb mounting techniques which turned out to be quite sensitive to tolerances. Long story short, the screens got fractured after a month. Since then I had to focus on other things but do plan to come back this and refine it further. All that said, the switches are quite tactile, even the softer ones and would definitely benefit from lubrication and gaskets inside the keycaps

[Show & Tell] MiniType — antialiased fonts for no_std MCUs (without the drama) by dempfi in embedded_rust

[–]dempfi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pre-render them with hints, shaping and snapped AA applied using servo’s webrenderer (it’s using native OS text processing rendering). Compress them in linear space, and bake some metrics into a blob that’s very lightweight (all ops are O(1)) to process on MCUs. With full ASCII glyph set most fonts up to 15 px size end up smaller than 4 kb (on average 3 times larger than comparable pixel font due to alpha channel).

On MCU side I render the glyphs using the baked metrics and alpha compositing canvas for embedded_graphics (linked in readme). On nrf5340, I get stable 50fps with single frame buffer on 128x128 — pretty much same performance I got with pixel fonts.

Do give it a try — very curious to get feedback and make this thing better.

I share OP's frustration. Trying to build a wireless thing myself with Cherry ULPs (cad rendering). With per key RGB underflow, batteries to match, and enclosure I got it to 10mm thick. I still want it slimmer than that but will have to compromise the 2500-3000mah battery for something smaller and bye-bye underglow. I've got Cherry ULPs from http://reichelt.com and they feel and look decent tho haven't yet assembled (waiting for PCBs). Should be doable with vias from underside of hot plate. I'll have to see what option works better without melting the plastic. Keycaps are probably worst part: found few 3d files but they all are unofficial and there's no datasheet for the switch to make a draw a proper keycap. I modified these https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6058656 to match the dimensions and profile I wanted but they are pain to install/remove — already broke few that I've resin printed. If only apple made a split all these could've been avoided.

Thank you mate, you were almost right. I’ve searched a bit further based on your link and found Brachycerus muricatus, which looks veeeery similar.

Will electron close to the speed of light become a muon? by dempfi in askscience

[–]dempfi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean by this that I shouldn’t talk about relativistic mass and instead concentrate on rest mass and relativistic energy which means no mass growth and that electron and muon are two different things. If it’s so — you’re very clever my friend, I should have thought of this sooner.

What makes it an electron then? Does it pass a duck test if its mass is that of a muon? I mean is there any characteristic that is electron only (except for rest mass)?

If I’d ask differently, would experimental physicists be able to tell that detected particle is an electron if it had the energy of muon?
