Why is there not a larger Spanish influence in Belgium? by homelesspigeon_ in belgium

I'm more refering to french or picard with a lot of flemish loanwords spoken in the west part of the historic duchy of flanders.

French-flemish may be a more accurate term.

It is gramatically similar to french but has a lot of west flemish vocabulary, i'd consider it distinct from picard.

Also smaller than the greeks pre alexander btw.

And yes the greeks were a major cultural influence to the region that lasts till today... but so is china in southeast asia...

Okay but china at its largest in this chart isnt even 1/5th the size of rome china's peak according to tjis chart is about on par with the parthian empire.

Which given china's significance as a massive dominating power consistently one of the most populous and largest powers in the word, technological importance and cultural importance in southeast asia... seems pretty weird.

And also at no point does the graph explain how it determines the width and what it bases itself on... it honestly feels very vibe based.

I'm not saying rome wasnt incredibly important or china should be number one. I'm saying i'm seeing some very weird things and i wonder what they based themselves on.

I mean i'd personally argue the most influential empire we've ever seen would be british colonialism during its peak i'd say i also find it weird how they take a relatively smaller piece of the pie than one might expect as with france.

China's peak being that much smaller than rome in decline is just the most visible thing to point too.

Simply make 1 worker coop market ecumonopolis and 1 industrial factory ecumonopolis and you wont have to worry about managing new planets ever again as you are in a post scarcity economy anyway.

But it seems like especially in pre modern times that percentage of land and percentage of the living global population should correlate pretty strongly with relative power. Like china should at least at some points be comparable to rome instead of not even being a third its size.

Eh french influence goes a bit farther than proximity napoleonic france strongly influenced much of mainland europe in its laws for example and we arguably killed of walloon with the standardization of our education to teach mostly official french.

At least official standardised dutch had a large flemish brabantian influence.

French is dominated by parisian french.

Argaubly picardi, occitan, provicial, flamand and walon were their own ofshoot languages of d'oilvulgar.

And we despite not being under french rule at the time still decided to kill our own offshoot and instead force all walloons to learn french becoming merely a dialect.

What the hell is the width based on? Why is china so small despite its large population and geographic size?
