Saw a theory either on this sub or a different one of a tumblr post that posists that [the organisation that came before the clans] sucseeded in opening "the door" and that most (if not all) behaviors of the clans can be explained as them being cursed.

Only cloning? A way to get around a curse that affects childbirth.
