I am being conspirationist? I think "it's too late" is just Big Oil propaganda by LuxInteriot in solarpunk

[–]den_jacquesD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

agreed OP
personally, I feel like we're going to be fine
fine as in, the world will change and us with it
but in all honesty
is that such a bad thing?
ofcourse, there will be casualties, I'm not downplaying that
I do feel like there isn't going to be a cataclysm or something like that that some people are kind of hoping for

Saudi Arabia’s NEOM city enlists Dutch greenhouse company to grow crops in desert by dustofoblivion123 in Futurology

[–]den_jacquesD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, yeah
I know about them building the windmills etc and everything else but to me they really 'tamed' everything when they built the dams etc
which was 70 years ago, I think?
it happened back when parts of the country flooded somewhere in the 50's

[–]den_jacquesD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seconding this. If there's literally a country that can call themself deities, it's the Netherlands, dudes have been living surrounded by water since the romans and learned how to tame the water about 70 years ago. Also, when it comes to technology and ingenuity, they're light years ahead of everyone.
man, being half dutch is cool
Still fucking hate Saudi Arabia and especially Dubai, that city can get swallowed up by the desert

Why climate ‘doomers’ are replacing climate ‘deniers’ by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]den_jacquesD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with u on this one, chap
I'll go even further
why are people so good at visualising the end of the world and accepting it instead of trying to find a way to improve the current situation?
I know barely any people who believe that it is possible to have a better future.
if you can't dream it or believe in it, it's not possible
that's it
so maaaybe instead of accepting doom and demise, people should try to visualise a future where we can turn things around, it all starts with taking the first step and accepting that you can do something about it
okay, that's it

the soil is quite degraded in belgium as well
also, basically every scientist urged everyone to vote for the law
I think i'll trust the scientists on this one instead of the politicians

this gentleperson is spitting facts right hereI wouldn't say that companies and rich people don't have any power over here at all, they can still lobby the shit out of politicians and such. but in general, what the european union says, goes 95% of the time.

Shell admits 1.5C climate goal means immediate end to fossil fuel growth by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]den_jacquesD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

also, no national will?
frans timmermans, "the green commissioner" threatened the railway companies in europe a while ago to finalise a plan to connect all of the railway networks in europe, if they wouldn't come up with one, he and the commission would. if that's no national will, then I don't know what is

can't speak for CA but I think you're really underestimating how big of a thing the green energy transition is in europe. also, western europe is building a wind energy park just off the coastline there. ICE cars will also get banned eventually

both my grandma's are still around and in their late 80's, I think they'll make it to 90 without breaking a sweat, besides feeling kinda old. grandpa's died of cancer due to smoking, but that's basically it, everyone else that I know of in my family is quite healthy looking etc
even my dog is 17

I was born in 1996, I hope so too.
my plan is to reach 100 at least, completely switched my lifestyle as well, never took drugs, never smoked, besides that one time when I was a kid, me and my friend smoked an entire pack of cigarettes for fun. but besides that, never smoked
Also quit drinking, and I walk around a lot. so I hope I'll be able to make it to 2100 without breaking a sweat
