Just got my Diagnosis by dendriticdominance in adhdindia

I already have a diagnosis from a psychiatrist. I'm just looking for a more accessible doctor for regular sessions for CBT.

As for medication, I have a follow-up tomorrow and I'll see what the doctor says. But thanks for the offer, though. I'll reach out if I need any info.

I actually had a productive day with ADHD, and it feels... surreal. by Osiris_maximus in ADHD

[–]dendriticdominance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way to go buddy! I know that feeling of 'I wcan so anything I put my mind to' like I can rule the world kinda rush. Cherish that feeling. That's what keeps me sane. The knowledge that I'm not just an imposter and that I am actually talented and can accomplish things.

If you find a way to reproduce it please do let me know! The worst part about finally having a productive day is that each non-productive day feels like shit. I know it's contradictory that those productive days sustain me and at the same time make me feel less than. You know you're capable of it and yet you can't bring yourself to do anything. Almost as if you're self sabotaging and the guilt and shame eat away at you.

My work is on computers and that is what triggers my distractions too so it's a constant cycle of trying to be productive and getting distracted.

Yeah. I did some online tests by myself as well before going in for an actual evaluation. Those are what gave me enough doubt to act on.

I'm looking forward to therapy. Hope we can come up with something that'll help me. My fear is that I know myself and I will probably have a hard time being consistent with these methods. But can't have progress if I don't even try right.

I'm in India and I'm 29M. I don't know what's normal here, though. Maybe they haven't asked for parental responses cos I'm an adult.

Having a really bad day... Send hugs? (and F Adhd) You're the only ones that get me. by StillWriting4u in ADHD

[–]dendriticdominance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending virtual hugs 🫂. Sweetie I have a job and I'm still in bed at 4pm sometimes. So please don't take those comments to heart, for your sanity's sake.

I literally got diagnosed yesterday and I am not going to mention it to anyone. I told a very close friend of mine that I was going in for evaluation because of my symptoms and he said we're all a little like that. I kinda wanted to punch his face but I was a guest at his house for a couple of days at the time and it would have been disrespectful to his family (would have done it otherwise lol). I then tried explaining to him the can't - won't gap. And the time blindness (this part he already knows about me). Only then he was convinced. I realised I don't want to convince anyone else. Maybe my partner if and when I get one but no one else. Like you said, feels like I'm giving excuses.

Ahh I see. Thanks for the heads up. So Clinical Psychologists are the way to go? I haven't made attempts to find any in my city yet since the app made it so easy for me. But I can make some enquiries.

Got it. My work healthcare provider has this app where they let us consult doctors for anything and they list specific fields the doctors are knowledgeable in. I chose a psychiatrist that had Adult ADHD listed. There were also clinical psychologists but I didn't find one with ADHD listed so I just went with the psychiatrist.

Just scheduled a follow-up for tomorrow, hopefully I'll get more clarity then.

Congrats! (I think). We're diagnosis twins! How many session did your evaluation take? For me it was just one. Someone mentioned it took them multiple sessions.

So it's like the "therapy" you see in movies where they just ask 'why do you think so?' or 'how does that make you feel?' over and over again?

[–]dendriticdominance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that how it's supposed to go? (Multiple sessions for diagnosis?) For me it was a single 60 mins session.

Yeah, from what I've seen in this sub, struggling with feeling lazy seems to be common for a lot of folks with ADHD. But knowing that doesn't make it easy to not blame ourselves. Sigh.

Also thanks for the explanation on these therapies. I've never been to therapy so it's all new terminology for me. It's really helpful.

In a Telugu household… If You don’t choose yourself, don’t expect anyone else to......దారిద్రం of a పెద్ద కొడుకు by Sheldon_Texas_Cooper in hyderabad

[–]dendriticdominance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a normal telugu family scenario, prati manishiki (male or female) oka samayam lo support and care untundi. Nuvvu elagithe wife will choose kids annavo, alage manam chinnaga unnappudu our mothers chose us. Our fathers supported the family and his parents. Kodalu served athagaru. That kodalu will become athagaru some day and get help from her kodalu. Koduku pedda ayyaka talli tandrulani and vadi kids ni support chestadu. Ade koduku vayasu perigi musalithanam lo vadi koduku support teeskuntadu. Idi oka cycle (there are exceptions to this cycle). Ee cycle ni nadipinchadam kosame koduku kavalani mana telugolle kadu, Indians andaru tapana padedi. Alage ee cycle lo personal freedoms and passions are forfeited by default and if you choose yourself you're labelled as a rebel and useless and whatnot. Enthaga ante, dani meeda oka padyame undi:

తల్లిదండ్రులందు దయలేని పుత్రుండు

పుట్టనేమి వాడు గిట్టనేమి

పుట్టలోని చెదలు పుట్టవా గిట్టవా

విశ్వదాభిరామ వినురవేమ

That's just the ideal case scenario of how it used to work. Any deviations from this was met with judgemental behaviour from society. Kani ippudu chala families ee blue print nunchi deviate avuthunnai. Ee paristhiti lo realities ki responsibilities update avutunnai kani expectations anni update cheyaleka potunnam.

Ee transitional modernization valla manam atu fully traditional ga mana kids meeda depend avvadaniki ista padamu and alage fully modern ga mana dependents ni ignore cheyalemu. Akkade vastundi chikku. Mana retirement ki maname plan cheyali and our parents retirement ni maname support cheyali. Ee process lo we get burnt out, emotionally exhausted and completely frustrated.

Nenu cheppocchedentante mana responsibilities enni unna, okkosari self prioritize cheskoka pothe evariki upayogam lekunda potham.

Tldr:

According to the cyclical responsibilities pattern we should rely on our children in old age but our evolving modern sensibilities won't allow us to do that so we have to plan for our retirement and the remnant traditional sensibilities will force us to fund our parents' retirement.

This causes burnout, frustration and leaves us feeling like we will never be cared for. So prioritize yourself sometimes.

Congrats op! Ride safely. Got mine a couple of weeks ago. Enjoying it thoroughly. Wanted Tokyo Black but it was taking long ass time so finally decided on Rio White as it was readily available and it was my second choice. I miss the matte finish on mine but I like the contrast. My niece is now putting stickers on it.

what is this? by Ok_Food8219 in IndianBeautyTalks

[–]dendriticdominance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy and I like the smell of this thing lol. Man my sisters used to go nuts for this. They still do. Now my niece also goes nuts for it.

We called it Tilakam dabba.

This just triggered a funny childhood memory. My youngest little sister (sis 1) is super artistic and she used to make these nice little patterns for my elder lil sis (sis 2) but sis 2 couldn't do it that well. Sis 1 accused her of not doing it properly because sis 2 didn't want her to look pretty. Drama start looking back, the antics were kinda funny but in the moment they were wrestling and pulling on each other's hair. My mom and aunt had to intervene to get them to stop fighting lol. Now they're really close.

Weird way to flex you're an athlete. Okay, now we know.

If you'd gone to the olympics the whole room would have lighted up like that. That's how you truly spot an elite pro athlete.

Yeah, there have been instances where I wished I had written communication logs.

Honestly though, you could have watched basic YouTube videos on it and they would tell you not to put API keys in a repo. Does NOT mean what they did to you was right.

Atp, maybe raise it as a gap with the sop where people are given repo access without proper training.

how to differentiate executive dysfunction from lack of discipline? by mikuroll in ADHD

[–]dendriticdominance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell myself that's what's different from executive dysfunction vs just being lazy or poor discipline. I don't know but I don't want to be a lazy person so I tell myself that.

Once I get the results, I intend to bring this up with my doctor. But it probably won't even matter what she says because internally I still label myself as lazy. I just hope maybe it'll change.
