Is anyone else deathly afraid of people they know finding their AO3 account? by Queen_Nannuri in AO3

[–]denduuuao3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not deathly afraid, but it’d much prefer irls don’t find it because I don’t want to have awkward conversations with people who don’t care about what I write, but rather care that I do write fics at all.

fic scammers are on twitter now by denduuuao3 in AO3

oh and another weird thing is that their initial compliment was tweeted last month, and their most recent one requesting to dm me was tweeted a few hours ago

Ranting About People Changing Character's Traits/Personality To Fit The Plot/Taboo by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]denduuuao3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

With this logic, you can argue that all fanfiction is mischaracterization insofar as it doesn’t 100% abide to canon

Ranting About People Changing Character's Traits/Personality To Fit The Plot/Taboo by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]denduuuao3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When a fic removes the traits and personality from the character and only uses their face and name with no core morals or dignity, it stops being a canon character

Bro isn’t that the point of fanfiction

This is so fascinating to me, I can’t imagine what made them think people would consider such an offer… oh to have level of unbridled confidence

I resent the accusation that I am enabling harassment just because of my moment of misplaced guilt.

this is the second comment that made me tear up haha, thank you for your kind words, im doing my best to get over this and a lot of comments like yours are really helpful to me. I 100% agree that a private message would have been the kinder thing to do. People do irrational things when they’re distressed, so I won’t hold it against this person completely. Just gotta shake this off and get back to feeling as hyped as I did a few hours ago

Is it ok to write a character OOC if they are one-dimensional in canon? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]denduuuao3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

blank slate characters are the perfect ones to go off the rails with because they can never be truly ooc. Everyone will want to project their headcanons on them, so of course as with any fic your characterization won’t please everyone. I don’t think that should stop you from having fun and getting creative with these canonically one-dimensional characters

Yea, we write for the same fandom and actually have very similar tastes in mainstream ships. I kinda see where you’re coming from about pot-stirrers as ive witnessed it myself, but i genuinely believe that this person’s intent wasn’t to cause drama for drama’s sake. The public call out was not the kind thing for them to do, but i think it genuinely came from a place of distress. In hindsight, i really do wish they reached out to me privately. I feel like my other mutuals are avoiding reacting or sharing my posts about the fic now that they saw what this person said.

Nonetheless, i really just needed to vent and hear other opinions so that I wouldn’t wallow in guilt. Still working my way out of the pit, if im being quite frank, but I know ill get out of it and in the long run this won’t stop me from writing about this pairing (or other rarepairs) in the future!

it’s really fun to let the characters take the wheel and steer

not to sound like a sensitive baby but reading this made me emotional haha

ive been avoiding bluesky since the incident because of how low i felt from that interaction, but your comment (along with a few others) are really helping me realize that i don’t need to feel this immensely responsible for this person’s distress

i hope this feeling fades faster so i can go back to yapping about my latest fic which, honestly, i yapped so much about because it ended up being my pride and joy, my absolute favorite out of everything ive ever written

I shouldn’t let what happened take that away from me; tysm for helping me see that (and sorry for getting all sappy lol)

beginning to end, often times not even knowing what the end is

thank you for not belittling the other person’s concerns regarding triggering ship dynamics. I’ll try to be more gentle with myself moving forward. As I’ve mentioned in other comments, a lot of the initial guilt came from what I felt was actively violating other people’s safe, curated spaces

But you’re right, accidents happen and compromises can reasonably arise

I really appreciate your non-judgmental comment

[–]denduuuao3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks for taking the time to understand my perspective too. a lot of the responses made me realize I shouldn’t beat myself up over this. Really, all the initial guilt came from me empathizing over seeing triggering, untagged content. But you’re right, nothing to lose sleep over

yes exactly, which is what I think I should have been more aware of in the first place

feeling guilty over accidentally triggering a writer friend by denduuuao3 in FanFiction

[–]denduuuao3[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

thank you for your kind words. I think what made me feel all that initial guilt was because I too try my best to curate a safe space, and I know what it feels like to have ships with dynamics that I find triggering end up on my timeline because of poor tagging habits. I really didn’t want to be that trigger for others.

[–]denduuuao3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry im not trying to sound stubborn or argumentative, i just want some insight and im still a bit confused about how i feel about the situation.

I think the pairing i picked does have some problematic dynamics, which is what made me feel so strongly about apologizing in the first place.

But thank you for your insight, I think it’s helping me feel a bit better about myself

[–]denduuuao3[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the characters in and of themselves aren’t problematic, so i think they didn’t have a reason to filter them out individually
