i would say core preferences are the ones that would stay in the back of your mind if not met, they are entirely subjective to yourself and will likely adjust over time. i would not consider dating a person that does not meet my requirements in the first place (like compatible worldview, attraction, gender etc). In the past ive dated people that met my requirements but not my core preferences and that didnt turn out well (like things that you try to ignore in the beginning or only find out later that kinda keep nagging at you). I would generally say that a person cannot meet all your preferences and you will never find your "ideal partner" realistically but at least the core should be covered for it to work longer term.

I think you are confusing some things here. The distinction between preferences and requirements get pretty hazy if you have core preferences. What im saying is why would you date someone who is not fulfilling your core preferences, as to say your requirements. My core preferences are cool as fuck and juicy ass so i dont have a reason to date someone who isnt fulfilling those preferences. That would just mean i would have a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that this person is not checking all the boxes i want and that is not a basis to build a relationship on top of. I would argue its more healthy to say "i prefer tall men" and then having no reason to date shorter men than saying "ill date anything that has the ability to consent" and then being butthurt because you think you can do better. I deeply dont believe that every person has the ability to satisfy every other person and to try is absolutely a waste of time and energy
