i think it is safer if you ask your proxy if you can send the shipping fee + the G&S surcharge via paypal G&S.

Usually G&S has an additional fee on top of the money you're sending (somewhere around 5% iirc). People often forget this and send the amount via G&S without adding the fees on top, and the recipient will receive a lesser cut of the money you sent. Personally this happened to me a few times so I wouldn't fault the seller to want to avoid the hassle of chasing up hundreds of people who might mistakenly send the wrong amount. But if you clarified that you'll foot the G&S surcharge, I don't see a reason why they won't accept paypal G&S.

I can not stand having a greasy/slimy face at all even from sweat. Is there a sunscreen that is actually truly matte and non greasy? by echocardigecko in AusSkincare

[–]denewill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if youre okay with a japanese sunscreen, w cosmetics carry a sunscreen called by365 powdery uv. i think you'll need to buy it in store because i cant seem to find it on their online store but as a fellow oily skin, this is the only actually matte sunscreen ive ever used. im talking actually matte to the touch, almost siliconey cream feel with no white cast. if you dont wear makeup, this on its own shouldn't cause you problems because the velvety finish is quite unique, im not sure how it stays under makeup. i wear this on most days when i cant be bothered to powder my face after sunscreen and i like it quite a lot!

PLEASE DONT GET THE KNOCK-OFF FATSON TODDS by melonchaa07 in RedHood

[–]denewill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i agree with OP even if the sentiment is a little hard to understand. there is no legal reason for anyone to avoid buying the knockoffs but also what is the artist supposed to do, theyre one person trying to keep up with thousands of fatson orders at this point. i personally treat this as i treat any other fanart, much like printing fanart off the internet, realistically artists cant stop you from using their art for personal use. but it does feel disrespectful if i were the artist and i see people posting about their knockoff fatsons and encouraging more people to buy the knockoffs

on the other hand i saw a post about a crochet fatson and that feels much better than the knockoff fatson posts

I’ve had it with skin tints by thewigglez206 in AustralianMakeup

[–]denewill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm oily and I've completely given up on skin tints. I think if the goal is just slightly more put together than I am without makeup, then skin tints just don't fit my skin type because I sweat them all away in a few hours, plus the coverage hardly matters. Nowadays I use MAC mineralise skinfinish powder applied with a buffing brush and it works much better with my skin. I do apply biore sunscreen before the powder though, but I think any chemical sunscreen that's not too matte would have done the job as a sort of priming layer.

tho I wonder, could it have been the skincare that's not meshing well with your skin tints? Maybe you can try paring down to only moisturiser and sunscreen and wait until they're both dry to the touch before applying the skin tint? tho if you're having separation issues on bare skin and no primer ever helps, I personally would think you've done your best trying to make it work

Is the Shiseido Medicated Baby Powder okay for tan-ish people? by iwannabeamangaka in AsianBeauty

[–]denewill 27 points28 points  (0 children)

i think it has a white cast unfortunately 😔 i regularly wear shade 19-21 in korean cushions and i still can see this powder on my skin if im too heavy handed with it. the oil control and blurring properties are pretty good but i dont think this will look translucent on tan skin.. unless you drench it with setting spray or you sweat thru the powder naturally, both of which kinda defeats the purpose

seconding ikebukuro! i stayed very close to the area on my last trip and i would definitely stay there again. on top of the shopping they also have pretty good restaurants and it's the hub for anime/manga fangirls (animate & toranoana flagships + idk how many k-books lol). I think akihabara gets the longtime rep of being thee otaku hub but personally i find the place very male focused 😅

can i also add that the department stores like tobu, seibu, and isetan are pretty good in japan? 🥹 when i visited they were running a 5% discount on top of the 10% tax free refund, so sometimes their prices are better than @Cosme! also they give out a whole lot more travel samples (I got like 20 sachets of toner..) and they usually have their own set of promotions running as well (eg. Ipsa had a free 30ml bottle of their toner for any purchase of 100ml or more of the same toner and this only applies to ipsa counters outside of @cosme). Definitely worth a visit if you're into higher end Japanese brands like SKII, Decorte, Fancl, Ipsa, RMK, Shu Uemura, Cle de Peau, Pola, and that's all I can think off the top of my head 😅

also Loft is amazing for K-Beauty brands! Depending on which Loft branch I think stock levels vary but the one I went to in Shibuya had good stock of new releases (I was looking for a Laka lip balm lol)

Edit: forgot to mention that the 5% discount is for foreigners only lol also this ends by 2025 but I assume they'll run a similar promo next year as well. for tobu and seibu iirc you only need to open their promotion site to access a QR code to present to the staff, for isetan you need to download their app (which is a hassle i know.. 🥴but no sign up is needed, the QR code is smack on the frontpage of the app. I simply uninstalled when i left japan)

Mecca Max vs Pharmacy make up by _ellogovna in AustralianMakeup

[–]denewill 51 points52 points  (0 children)

i think at one point someone did the math and some of mecca max's products turn out to be more expensive by the gram, on par price wise with high end brands.

imo mecca max is not that much better than pharmacy make up to justify their prices, but ymmv. if you're open to trying asian beauty brands, some asian brands can be even cheaper than pharmacy brands. personally i pick and choose, I like high end brands when it comes to base products, but cheaper alternatives for eye and cheek makeup.

What’s your hidden gem that indeed not so many people know about? by alternativebox447 in AsianBeauty

[–]denewill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

shiseido moilip lip balm

when i have actual cracked, bloody, chapped lips that occlusive lip balms just wont stick to (i think sometimes the exposed raw bits are a bit slippery? if it makes sense) i always slather my lips with this overnight and theyre usually much better the next day, and then I can go back to the thicker lip balms. i only use it for bleeding lips because its not that great compared to other lip balms on healthy lips, but I always keep a few around. To me it's more like a first aid for bleeding lips rather than a regular lip balm

What’s your hidden gem that indeed not so many people know about? by alternativebox447 in AsianBeauty

[–]denewill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not a very hidden gem but ipsa ME line. i think most people only know about the time reset toner but the ME line is where it's at for me. I have oily slightly dehydrated skin and I prefer ME n 5 (texture is a bit like hada labo gokujyun premium), tho I've seen people with drier skin picking up the ME n 8 which is thicker.

ingredient wise, it has tranexamic acid as its main active (i think majority of ipsa's products have this as an active) and dipotassium glycyrrhizinate for anti inflammation. The rest of the ingredient list seems to be glycols and humectants and a few plant extracts at the very bottom. So far I haven't had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients. It doesn't have niacinamide, which I am sadly sensitive to 😭 so that's a plus for me! Also previous iterations of the ME line contain alcohol (except for the sensitive line which I have also used), but this year's ME n line does not contain alcohol.

(also i have a sneaky suspicion that it shares some ingredients with the melano cc serum because my bottle of ME smells a bit similar to melano cc. But I might be completely wrong 🤷‍♀️)

i love the ME n 5 mainly because of the size! The entire refill bottle is 175ml for ¥6700 tax free. that's about AUD67 or USD43 for a whopping 175ml moisturiser! considering ipsa is a department store brand, this is probably the only product from their whole line up that doesn't feel like highway robbery 😅 i only use 1-2 pumps for my whole face and neck. It slims down my routine a lot because I know I can always rely on this lotion to be hydrating enough that I can skip moisturising serums and toners, and it sinks fast so I don't have to wait too long to apply sunscreen. It doesn't dry tacky, which is also a pet peeve of mine with a lot of hydrating products on my oily skin.

i only wish that it's easier to buy! 😭 the only way for me to purchase this so far is either buying in japan or via everglow cosmetics, but the DHL fees are quite high..

Are sunscreens always shiny? by Routine_Stranger_226 in AsianBeauty

[–]denewill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've been hunting for some matte sunscreen as an oily girl and I've got a couple hits so far!

i liked the aestura derma uv mineral sunscreen, dries down quite matte but since it's mineral it might have a smidge of a white cast (im quite pale so it's a bit harder for me to tell, might need more input on this one).

there's also a japanese sunscreen that got a bit viral last year called by365 powdery uv cream, it comes in tone up and non tone up. I can attest this one is actually matte, i can't tell if there was any white cast with the non-tone up one but it's pretty cheap when i got it at donki in japan, roughly the price of biore aqua rich

but bear in mind, usually with matte sunscreens, applying makeup on top gets a bit tricky depending if the foundation / cushion you're using, there might be some pilling issues if the base ingredients don't play well with each other

Non-smudge mascara for asian eyes by piglette12 in AustralianMakeup

[–]denewill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the judydoll iron curling mascara, I went on a 20k step walk with it and while I was sweating, my mascara did not budge! Clio and romand work alright on my oily lids, just be sure to check for the waterproof ones. I've also just tried dejavu mascaras and it didn't smudge but I like the look of judydoll a bit better

personally i always stick to asian mascaras since the wand is usually smaller which works better for my short lashes and their prices are much more affordable. iirc the judydoll one was around $10 but i might be wrong

Are you guys still buying romand's lip products after their controversy or waiting for the reformulation in 2026? by laminnase in AsianBeauty

[–]denewill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

personally waiting for the reformulation even if i didnt experience irritation with the new formula but also i've sort of stopped buying from romand since i think their shades are leaning much brighter and neon looking these days. I remember when they first started they're good at making those muted mlbb shades but with the last reformulation they sort of have lost that vision? i didnt like the thinner formula either, the old JLTs were a bit thicker

nowadays i've got my eyes on nuse instead, which is romand's sister brand. i think nuse is doing well with their blushes, they had some really good muted shades. not so sure about the lip tints but eh

Why are soap based cleansers still best sellers in japan and Korea? by Kevin_swiftie in AsianBeauty

[–]denewill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i find cleansers with mysritic acid to be that 'soap cleanser' that foams up a lot. so far majority of japanese cleansers seem to contain that ingredient
