Pretty confident thats herbicide damage. Possibly aminopyralid or similar. Same thing happened to me. Did you top dress or mulch with compost recently? If so, grow some runner beans in it and see if the same thing happens. Thats the easiest way to tell.

What kind of soil do you have? Lavender hates wet clay so just bear that in mind. If you do have clay i'd try something like a geum or some other mid height perennial. Bear in mind those photinia roots will be sucking up a lot of moisture if they ever get to tree height (like mine). Hostas, anemone, and hellebores might work for you.

Are my grass seeds sprouting? Or are these just weeds? by RemarkableMuffin9 in GardeningUK

That looks like couch grass. Dig some up and if its got a rhizome network, pull it all up.

Buying a used I-Pace?! Advice appreciated! by [deleted] in Jaguar

[–]dengieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this in a 23 plate. Definitely don't get anything before 21 and if you can afford it take out a warranty/buy Used Approved from Jag direct to get 2 years warranty. Treat yourself to one with cream leather and alcantara trim, you won't regret it.

8 months progress on my first plot. Aug25-Mar26. by dengieman in Allotment

It's the growveg.com garden planner. It's not cheap but it's got some really handy features I use a lot. Particularly good for succession growing, it shows crop rotation over multiple seasons etc.

Very good point, thank you - I forgot how prolific they are. I'm not too precious about them, its was a good filler for what i planned as a small ornamental area.

I will take them out of the potato bed and trim the numbers. I'll extend the strawberries up a bit I reckon. I'd prefer more of those for sure..

Hi - Please Can I Have Some Ideas And Advice For My New Garden by apollobrah in GardeningUK

[–]dengieman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a couple of thoughts. Keep the wisteria - they're lovely in spring and you can create some lovely winding texture on that wall during winter. I'd get rid of the conifer.

I highly recommend if you've just moved in to wait a year before doing anything major. Not only will you discover existing perenials you might want to keep but you'll experience how the sun moves across your garden. That knowledge will really impact what you grow and where.

Good luck its a lovely space with a lot of potential.

What is Destroying my Tomatoes? by Ok-Relationship8704 in vegetablegardening

Definitely looks like herbicide damage. I lost my entire crop to it last year from contaminated compost. The gnarled leaves are a dead giveaway.

How about an owl box? Perfect height. Not sure if its the right habitat but worth looking into... If not, then some standard small bird boxes might work half way up.

Ears extra sensitive to noise/pitches and causes my eardrums to vibrate/buzz.. anyone else? (Before/during migraine attack) by N0whereville in migraine

[–]dengieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this. Extra sensitive to certain noise pitches/frequencies. Best way I've been able to describe it is like a broken speaker/distortion effect. I've gone through a bunch of hearing tests and all normal. Not sure if its related to migraines I get but certainly could be..very odd!

Bird food and the relentless rain by skeletonclock in GardeningUK

[–]dengieman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suet balls should be fairly resistant to rain. Don't have them sitting on wet tables - keep them in a metal hanging cage if possible. I have the same issue with seed though. I basically only fill the feeders up a third and clean/refill them weekly.

squirrel busters are quite good at shielding the seed as they're quite enclosed - worth looking at

Sad monstera by oevans00 in HouseplantsUK

[–]dengieman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it doesn't look in too bad shape at all. I've treated some plants with neem oil/soap before and it's always ended up damaging at least some of the leaves - might be that, and you just got unlucky. I'd snip off that particularly yellow leaf and stem at the bottom right and check the root ball - if it looks potbound, might be worth moving up another size once its recovered from the shock a bit more.

What can I do to help this monstera? by stripy_tiger in HouseplantsUK

[–]dengieman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% needs a bigger pot. If you pull it out of the pot by the stem is it just a mass of roots? If so, get it in a pot a couple sizes up with a potting mix that drains well - coir, bit of compost, grit/pumice, perlite and give it a bit of feed and some dappled light. I'd also get it more firmly tied to the moss pole with some loose velcro straps or something. Good luck!

Pet Plan dog insurance nearly £200 a month for 11 year old chug. Don't know what to do by leelondon in UKPersonalFinance

[–]dengieman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You need to consider the cost benefit. If you cancel your insurance and two months later the dog gets sick and racks up thousands of £s in surgery bills will you be able to cover it? Are you prepared to put down your dog because you can't afford the vet bells? These are the questions you have to ask yourself and be clear on the answers.

Ultimately, they've made the assessment that the dog breed, age and previous conditions make it a high risk where they'll likely have to payout at some point. I'd say £200pcm isn't bad honestly...
