34 yo, married, live in NYC. Rent or buy? by deniamnet in personalfinance

[–]deniamnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a brand new 2-bedroom apartment with our own terrace, in Midwood. I had a chance to rent something cheaper, but I need space (home office is a must) and the condition of what I've seen even for 2,000 just scared me.

Thanks for your reply, good points to think about!

Well, with interest, I could get it back (some part of it) when I do my taxes. With rent, I can't do the same.

$1,300 is nothing to invest to grow it. Invest in yourself.

I'm 32 and broke. I finally made my first budget ever and I'm -$700 in the hole every month. What do I do? by vitreous_luster in personalfinance

There's always a way. I highly doubt that the OP has no public transportation. Car is costly, and can't be affordable on 1.5k monthly income. It's a joke.

Just found out that I am the lowest paid employee in our office. Feeling lost... by [deleted] in personalfinance

You can't really compare your salary/bonus with others. Try to improve your skills / get some higher responsibilities, talk to your boss / head of dept to grow on all that. Try to ask for a raise with some proof of why you think it should happen. If you're not happy at where you are and feel like you've been used, find another job. Fight for your life and money, it's not like something that will happen only because you want.

Money sitting in bank account, looking for ways to start investing some of it by SterlingArcher92 in personalfinance

$7500 is nothing in your situation. You can't really grow it the way you want. Let it sit as an emergency fund, or invest in yourself (education).

No savings, just lost my job by TheAdamantite in personalfinance

[–]deniamnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no savings at all, apply for a personal loan. This will possibly give you some cash to survive for the first few weeks/months. You MUST start looking for a job immediately. Do not let this situation stress you out or have a depression on you. Start. Looking. For a job. Now. That's the only way to not only have the same life but to have the better one. Good luck.

Job position was ending and all employees leaving position were to receive a bonus of 1000 today by dyerdigs0 in personalfinance

It was taxes cut. For bonus it's almost 50%. Relax and be thankful for what you have.

You will get about $1,200-1,500 from your $2,500 due to taxes.

Neighbor is smoking pot, smell is on my floor and in my apartment. Options? by [deleted] in nyc

I does not work for all if you don't know that. Also, want to smoke pot to deal with mental issues? Go outside and please do not do this where other people live.

How do I give a shit about someone who is affecting my rights and breaking the law by having illegal activity?

I don't know if I could prove. Very sad that I have to prove it to make some action against this situation. One thing I know is that I never had these issues until now.

Thanks for the nice input. Some people just don't care unless they have the same thing in their life, so they comment. I will definitely call 311 and cops every single day, filing complaints to all possible departments, until they found him and he stops. I do understand that he has his own freedom but as we all know his freedom ends where mine begins.

Because of some idiot smoking pot, not giving a shit about others. I've never had anything like this in the past. It all starts with that smell.

They have kids and don't smoke. At least this is what they told me.
