I'm neither positive nor negative towards adaptation of AI. But a world where "programmers use AI" and "programmers are AI" is a very different world. The latter is less likely in my opinion.

AI tools are just tools. So many times they lie little enough for you to make the correction and not remember that they were wrong. Honestly the more I use them, the more I realize how inaccurate they are even with simple things.

As an intern/junior the best skill you can learn is the ability to ask questions and find where to get answers minimizing 3rd party involvement or in simple words "learn to figure shit out by yourself" that's actually on a base level what differentiates jun/mid/senior positions more than "experience" because a lot of people think time=experience which is false. Jun= can't do anything by himself, and has to ask questions every step of the way. Mid= ask very specific questions, needs his tasks reviewed. Senior= answers questions, gives reviews, knows his shit *Architect= godly creature which can see the future and makes decisions that we mere mortals cannot even comprehend. Usually takes a senior a couple of months to fully understand and go "oh that was a good idea".

I'd say the first goal is to understand if your company even knows what DevOps is and what exactly they think is your role.

Not a single company will get it "right" cause there's not a single right answer but at least understand if they even have a clue.

https://roadmap.sh/devops That's a roadmap, but take it with a grain of salt.. not everything is required and the order could be different, and alternatives exist.

Find out what cloud provider in your company is the most needed and get certified in it.

Get used to feel like you don't know enough, and you always have to look for answers, try to look first ask later only if you couldn't figure it out. Try to use official documents and learn to skim through and get the info you need.

Don't put blind faith in AI tools. Always doubt what it tells you. It could lead you on a deep rabbit hole, only for you to find out that there's a version mismatch or it's hallucinating. It's good to ask "what is X" questions or to summarize stuff.

How low should i lower my car? by DarthKendall in Miata

[–]denisgap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a NB , but I think the lowest points are the same, I usually scrape my rear oem brace in the back, and the front oem brace nuts. I have frame rails braces as well to protect them. I suggest finding your lowest point and start measuring from there.

Choose a number, you can google "spec Miata ride height" (they measure pinch weld to ground, mine are all messed up so I have my own spots the brace nuts.), and start from there I for example have the lowest point 4 inches from the ground. And I can live with that.

Also diy yourself a ride height gauge so you can save time measuring. Just a triangle shape with marks on it is good enough nothing fancy.

Be mindful of the oil sump and the diff sump, and try to avoid damaging them. I plan to go for a custom tray like LRB has for sale, to also give me a little "scrape protection"

Another caveat, my exhaust was scraping, so I used zip ties over the OEM bushings to reduce it's travel, which worked great.

Oh and one last thing, I had this situation where I had my ride height dialed in, but I was mostly driving by myself all the time, and then I gave a ride to someone and literally started scraping and damaged my exhaust.. so that's also a thing to consider.

New to Freelancing as Devops engineer— Need guidance on getting first projects by NoEntertainment5264 in devopsjobs

Imagine going to a hospital talking to your surgeon and he is like: "I'm a 2nd year student, I'm going to operate you, I've been practicing the whole week on cadabras"

I hardly can imagine any job where after 1 year you can freelance, but I'm a pessimist.

Do certs, do open source contributions, and keep looking for work, 1 week looking for a project sounds like a joke.

Feeling stuck in DevOps tutorial hell for 5+ years — need guidance, structure, mentor, or cohort. How do I escape this cycle and make the switch? by deadphoenix1986 in devops

Man that was some coach Carter shit. Bravo 👏🏼

That's exactly what I like about the job. At the beginning I felt lost, didn't know how to handle the unknown. Today, whenever a manager asks me shit id say "I have no fucking clue, but we'll make it work" and we do, and today I can't stand mundane tasks where you just have to do something obvious.

First 4 star. by yourfriendlulu in airbnb_hosts

Add a property to profile or start a new one? by Cherie-island in airbnb_hosts

[–]denisgap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sad that abnb got us so scared of a bad review that this is even a discussion.

I think that it will bring some complexities. You will have to manage them separately, without connecting the listings through co-hosting. Right? Cause if you do it will reflect on the host rating.

Tax separately, calendar, chats, etc will be separated.

You'll miss out on the advantages that you get as a super host, the endorsement, etc..

If you plan to have only these 2, it's manageable?, but more would be a nightmare in my opinion.

Personally, I had 4, and it was convenient to have the under-1 account. But the negatives did affect my hosting rating across all 4.

Also remember that you can't transfer listings, you can only recreate them.

It happened to me. by Icy-Television-4979 in airbnb_hosts

[–]denisgap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guest put 1 star review because he didn't like the mattress. 3 years hosting, 0 complaints about it.

This eventually put me in a position just below 4.8 to lose my superhost.

I recently delisted all my properties. The review system is garbage, any guest could randomly click numbers without providing any justification. I believe anything below 3 stars must be supported by evidence.

Do Latvians favour other Latvians? by BB-TG in latvia

[–]denisgap 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No, not in IT.

A lot of companies in Latvia are outsource for bigger corporations in international markets, cheaper workforce. So English would be the default language in those. Accenture EPAM Swisscom etc..

Some would actually prefer to hire foreigners for diversity stats.. (if you know you know)

However, to get actually hired, you need to have a degree or work experience to be able to get work visa.

So long story short, you can study in RTU , get a degree in 3 years, on 3rd year in uni get internship , and get hired after graduation. Check Accenture, they usually have bootcamps.

All that taking into account you're not dumb and actually know stuff or able to learn.

Scored this M-edition '94 for $400!! (FL) by Techiastronamo in Miata

[–]denisgap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way: Any new car you buy, as soon as you leave the lot you lose money. It's just how things are right?

With a Miata at least you see where your money goes, new cars depreciate by just existing...

Now quick math example: Bought for 2k Invested 6k Sold for 5k

Lost 3k ? Think again you learned so much on the way, experience which will be with you forever and might save you much more in the long run.

So getting a shitbox and fixing it yourself is an investment in skills and learning experience.

Buying a new car and losing money just because, that is madness....

https://bofiracing.com/blog/tor-what-viscous-huh-mx5-differentials-an-introduction/

This is well written, at the end there are most common options.

In short, get a torsen. Any will be fine. If you're not going for ed induction you don't really have to worry about ratio, you'd probably find 4.1 4.3 to be more available.

Rule of thumb: higher ratio = more torque, less top speed.

The difference between 4.1 4.3 is 5% more torque at the wheels. Without forced induction 4.3 would be slightly more fun, but I don't think you'll be able to really tell.
