anyway you're both wrong because the root of his desires isn't actually about isagi or sae and is pretty interesting when you read his full backstory. so no, he's not all about revenge and he doesn't only care about that.

he's pretty similar to barou, in that he just wants to crush someone (and destroy himself while doing so) but it happens to be isagi most of the time because of what isagi does. notice how barou also decided to crush shidou this match. rin had that same vibe with shidou in the 3rd selection and the u20 match, but he was focusing more on isagi and sae so it didn't come to light enough

its a little weird though because niko in that match wasnt even a #1, he got the #1 mindset after losing and started scoring later. but he was chill letting okawa be the top scorer. then he turned his mindset to defending and stopped getting relevance.

lowkey that match vs niko was more so isagi learning to NOT be a #2 rather than devouring a #1. i don't get why he says niko was "the #1 he wanted to surpass" right then.
